rafarataneneces Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 I love Insteon because the links work if I don't have Internet or API or if the network goes down even if ISY994i or Insteon Hub have lost power I am new to Z-Wave but I want to know 1) Do devices have memory so they store the links/scenes between them without the need of a hub? 2) if they do always need a hub, which one is the best Z-Wave hub? Thanks!!!
elvisimprsntr Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 1. Zwave is a mesh network which will use the least number of hops to control your devices based on the location when you added them to the network. This if you move a device you will need to remove and add it again. 2. All Zwave networks need at least one controller. The Zwave add on module does a fine job for the devices it supports, but it is recommended you add at least one additional device to act as a repeated to improve strength of the Zwave mesh network.

So would you say Insteon technology is better? I personally think so because you can sell a house with all Insteon stuff and without a controller buyer of the house has no idea how to use a controller
G W Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 They have no idea what to do if a switch goes out or looses its programming. Best regards, Gary Funk
giesen Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 I'm both an Insteon and a Z-Wave user and I wouldn't sell my house with either still installed. 1. For the vast majority of buyers, they are not willing to pay more for it (it does not increase the resale value of the home) and as such you'd be basically giving away your investment for nothing 2. And as previously pointed out, if something goes wrong, the buyer is up a creek without a paddle. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
