Posted August 20, 20169 yr I saw in a post from October 2015 that the next release of the software would support RGB color in z-wave. Can someone confirm that the Aeon Labs Aeotec Z-Wave LED Light Bulb, Gen5 is supported before I buy them?
August 27, 20169 yr Author Anyone? Michael? Before I invest, was hoping to get some support on my question. Thanks Richard
August 28, 20169 yr Hi morgan4x4, We did add support for the Color command class (where you can set individual R/G/B values to create whatever colors a device supports) but I believe the Aeotec LED actually uses config parameters to adjust color. Based on that, the Aeotec Z-Wave LED will likely work but we haven't actually tested it yet.
August 28, 20169 yr Author Tell you what, I'll test it out and report back. I am also going to compare with one of the WiFi RGB bulbs and see how they compare. Thanks!!

September 2, 20169 yr Author So I got the bulb today and added to the Z-Wave network. It shows up as a Dimmer Switch - only allowing capabilities to do on/off and a brightness factor. The parameters do not affect the RGB color, and their instructions talk to using the "gateway software" to adjust RGB.Any suggestions how to force the device type in the ISY into a device that supports the Color Command Class? Thanks
September 3, 20169 yr So I got the bulb today and added to the Z-Wave network. It shows up as a Dimmer Switch - only allowing capabilities to do on/off and a brightness factor. Any suggestions how to force the device type in the ISY into a device that supports the Color Command Class? Thanks Hi morgan4x4, It looks like it does not support Color Command class (and there is no way to force it), but instead only uses configuration parameters to adjust the colors. It looks 'bit-fiddly' to change them, but you can do it. http://aeotec.com/z-wave-led-lightbulb/1511-led-bulb-manual.html
September 3, 20169 yr Author So when it says"With your LED Bulb now working as a part of your smart home, you’ll be able to configure it to indicate different colours from your home control software via setting the RGB value. Please refer to the user manual for your Z-Wave hub for precise instructions on configuring your LED Bulb to your needs."How would I do that. The documentation does not have any parameters listed for changing color. Thanks!
September 5, 20169 yr Now I'm wondering if it does use the color command class. Have you tried going into programs for that node to see if there is a command that allows you to change the color. The main page doesn't show complex commands, they are only shown in programs. On the node, can post the results of right+click Z-Wave -> Show Information in Event Viewer -> Node Details
September 6, 20169 yr Hi The thread does not say what version of software your running but i have a ZW098-A54 Aeotec Led Bulb installed in version 5.0.4 It gives you two classes a color switch and dimmer switch. Using programs you can set the color like below. I use several programs to change to different colors red - [iD 0002][Parent 0001][Not Enabled] If - No Conditions - (To add one, press 'Schedule' or 'Condition') Then Set 'ZW 004 Color Switch' Warm White 0, Cold White 0, Red 255, Green 0, Blue 0, Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')
September 7, 20169 yr Hi J_Barrett, Thanks for confirming this! You are correct about the ISY version, the color command class is only supported in 5.0.4.
September 9, 20169 yr It;s a Alpha http://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/18711-release-504-alpha-is-now-available/
September 9, 20169 yr Is 5.04 a GA release or Beta? Thanks Alpha. Basically a feature incomplete, probably buggy version that should be considered not ready for mainstream use. That being said, some are using it with success - especially those without zwave.
September 10, 20169 yr Author Given the feature I am looking for is for a Z-wave device, I am rather concerned about making that move! I am sending the bulb back. Thanks everyone.
