Installed ISY portal now cant connect to Mobilinc

Blackbird

Recommended Posts

I purchased the network module and can not connect mobilinc to my isy.  I get  "Sync Error  Unable to connect to the lighting controller. Please verify the lighting controller settings."

Universal devices disabled Mobilinc connect for me and I followed these instructions

Login to https://my.isy.io , click on My Profile (top right) and make sure My Preferred ISY points to your ISY

  • Open MobiLinc and go to My Settings->Lighting Controller Settings
  1. Set Host Type to ISY
  2. Set Username and Password to the email address and password with which you are registered in ISY Portal
  3. Set Local - http://: make blank
  4. Set Local port: Leave as is
  5. Set Secure - https://: my.isy.io
  6. Set Secure Port: 443

If you have an Android Phone and still having trouble communicating:

  • Uninstall MobiLinc PRO (Force Stop Services)
  • Reboot your phone
  • Install MobiLinc PRO
  • Follow the same instructions as above
  • You may want to clear Http port

The only thing I did not do was clear Http Port which I do not understand

Thanks

You can only have one or the other. UDI has stated "will not fix". It is apparently a limitation of the hardware and/or the software architecture.

UDI will refund your portal subscription should you choose to stick with Mobilinc portal.

I guess I neglected to mention that I already had udi disable mobilinc connect. So I'm only using its portal

No, you didn't neglect to mention, I just mis-read!

Is your phone on your local network? Either directly on your WiFi or via VPN?

Clearing HTTP port is to force use of HTTPS. Set it to blank.

You need to match "secure port" to the setting in your ISY on Configuration/System page. Look at Network Settings on the left below Clock.

HTTP Port default is 80

HTTPS Port default is 443

You can change it if you wish, but no good reason to do so, just make sure it matches the app.

You can use HTTP if you wish, it's just insecure. Since you are on your local WiFi or else on VPN, it really is no big deal. If you have open WiFi, then there is some security concern. Assume you do not have open WiFi.

I tried my phone on wifi as well as my data plan and same problem.

In Mobilinc my Http port is blank.

I don't see "secure port" on my admin console but my network settings are as follows

Automatic (DHCP) is checked

UPnp is checked

I have an ip address

no subnet mask

no gateway

no DNS

Http port is 80

https port is 443

I would prefer https

It won't work on your data plan, unless you use a VPN. If you don't know what this is... you don't! That's an option you can explore later.

I don't know why you don't show HTTPS Port in your admin console. What model ISY do you have? I don't remember if ISY99 has HTTPS (I upgraded mine some time ago). ISY994 does have HTTPS. It does not say "secure port". It says "Https Port".

You can't use Automatic (DHCP) unless you have set-up your router to give your ISY a fixed address, rather than a pool address. The problem is with automatic, the address will change from time to time. You could test it with DHCP, but then after some hours or days, it will suddenly not work, because the address will have changed.

The IP address you give in Mobilinc is the address of the ISY on your local LAN (typically 192.168...) NOT your router's Internet address.

To make sure you've gotten it right, just try the address in your browser first.

I show a https port it's 443. I just didn't see anywhere that said "secure port".

So https can't be used away from home as in my data? So how do I do it? Only https? I do have a VPN private internet access if that's what you mean but don't usually use it on my phone.

The portal won't install on an ISY 99, a 994 is required.

Away from home, you will have to use a VPN. Get it working at home first.

iOS and Android do support VPN.

I have a VPN set-up on my Asus router (with Asus-WRT open-source firmware). You need a router with a fast CPU and a fast Internet connection (one with fast UPLOAD speed.) So, I can use the VPN on my phone, and reach my internal network as if I were home. And then I can also have my Internet usage on phone routed out through my home Internet connection. MUCH safer to go through VPN at Starbucks or some random WiFi!

It can be a pain to set up a VPN for iOS, even for a professional. Ask me how I know. :(

This is what I've been trying to do. The link is the same as the instructions I pasted on my first post. But doing these instructions does not work

So which is better talking straight to the isy or through the portal?

Short and to the point.

My Mobilinc settings:

Host Type: ISY

User Name: my_user_name

Password: my_password

Local http://my.local.ip.address

Local Port: my_local_port

Secure https:// left blank it filled in automatically

Secure Port: 433 (not a typo)

Mobilinc "Secure Port" = ISY "Https port". Same thing, different words.

START with the local network setup with your phone on your local WiFi. Get that to work and go from there.

Check your assumptions first by seeing if you can access your My Lighting web page on the ISY from a browser! First on your desktop, then on your mobile. On your local LAN (wired or WiFi).

My ISY is at 10.0.1.5. Yours is probably at 192.168.???.???.

So, if I type:

  https://10.0.1.5/

in a browser, I will see My Lighting.

There are other (arguably better) ways to reach the web interface, but this is the best way to diagnose the problem. That is, see if you can reach it from a web browser using the IP address.

Ok I did all as suggested.  User name and password were the ISY username and password not the ISY portal user name and password.  And I was able to connect on wifi on my phone.  Once I turned off Wifi and went to data, I can not connect.

So was mobilinc connect the same as a VPN?  What VPN do you use?
