Multiple Controllers

I have the ISY and a Honeywell Lyric alarm as controllers.

I have several devices that send status updates when their status changes, however I can never get status to both controllers.

The ISY is set as master and receives status when the devices are either operated by the switch ( for the light switch devices) or from an ISY initiated action. The Honeywell does not receive any updates from either.

However when the Honeywell initiates the action only it receives the status, the ISY does not get any status update.

Is this normal??

What I want to do is trigger ISY programs when the Honeywell alarm changes a ZWave device status.

One thing that may or may not be causing an issue is that the Honeywell is ZW001_1 Controller and the ISY IS ZW002_1. I had the Honeywell unit installed before I added the ZWave module to the ISY.

I don't want to hsve to start all over again if I don't have to.

If a state transition is initiated by a local device, several controllers can get notified assuming that the device is  capable of group 1 association (aka "instant status"). E.g. Yale locks are, GE switches are not.

If a state transition is initiated by a controller, the other controller does not get notified about it although the situation is similar to the local state transition above.  That's one of many zwave design defects.

It sounds like associations aren't being created properly in the Lyric.  There may be instructions for Lyric that show you how to manage associations.  Its possible that the scene support in ISY v5.0.x will help, but we'd have to test it with the Lyric to be sure.

Although ISY is usually node 1, it doesn't have to be.  This shouldn't be an issue.

Most zwave devices locally update their status - they don't rely on receiving an update from the remote device when they themselves sent the update. This is because many zwave devices don't send any status at all when they are controlled. Could this be the majority of your issue?

Lutron had a patent on the status notification method. So, manufacturers either had to pay a licensing fee, or simply not include status reporting at all. Most chose the latter. The patent expired earlier this year, and we are now starting to see new products that include status updates.

If you have devices that don't have the notification licensed from Lutron, then you'll only ever see status from the controller that initiated the change.

Thanks all...

The device I am trying to get status from does provide status it is an Aeotec siren, I am experimenting with a light switch that I know also gives status. Both work as stated in the op. When I switched the Honeywell to primary it starts to receive the updates from the switch when operated at the wall.

I will do some research on the settings of the associations of the devices..

Thanks for taking that out of the equation.

I just got a Google Home device which supposedly communicates with Smarttings.  While waiting for ISY to be compatible with Google Home... questions :

1.  How would I  connect Smarthings to ISY ?

2. Would I be able to communicate between Google Home and ISY by using Smarthings as a "bridge" ?

Hi asbril,

We don't really know since we don't have the APIs for GoogleHome and don't know much about SmarThings.

With kind regards,

Michel

I understand Michel,

I frequently see comments in this forum about primary and secondary controllers.  In general (without  referring to specific other brands)  what are the pros and cons of having a secondary controller ? Can they work as a backup ? Can devices linked to the secondary controller communicate with devices linked to the primary controller ?

Is there a wiki section on secondary controllers ?
