Power spikes and ISY Not restting

Recommended Posts

My vacation home has recently been experiencing power spike and interruptions. My wifi devices and routers all come back on without problems. The ISY does not come back on. I can not commuincate with via my mobilinc. Has anyone experienced this problem?  I  am going to add a dedicated battery backup system with surge protector for the ISY to plug into, (Not PLM). This should hopefully solve the problem. Has anyone done this before?  Also, is there a way to remote reset the ISY? The ISY has a dynamic IP address off my router

Yes, you can run the ISY itself off a UPS, and it can be many feet away from the PLM if necessary.

When you shop for a UPS, look into the high-end consumer (low end commercial) products, many of these have a Web-based management interface and a couple of switched outlets, giving you remote power control.   Personally, I use a double-conversion "online" UPS that tracks power quality and sends email anytime it switches to/from battery backup.

I have my ISY plugged into a remote power controlled port (same for the router/firewall).    One of the options for remote power on my device is "smart reset", where it turn off the outlet, waits 15 seconds, then turns it back on.

If the ISY is only sort-of hung, you might succeed in using the "Port B" serial console commands to reboot it. To do this remotely, you'd have to have it connected to something with a serial port you can reach, like a computer that is always on and running GoToMyPC or otherwise remotely accessible.

I would set a "reserved" IP for the ISY so it always has the same private IP.
