Entire system going crazy

I have no idea where to start. Things are randomly turning on!

For e.g. today I go to leave my house and press the garage button on my MobiLink app and the flood lights and sprinklers turned on. And I don't even have a button for flood lights or sprinklers on my Mobilink app.

Could this be due to failing Insteon devices? One of my keypads locked up a few weeks ago and I power cycled it. It still kind of works, but it beeps whenever you press a button and the LEDs are all off and won't turn on.

If you air gapped the KPL and it still behaves oddly you can try hard resetting the device and then complete a *Restore Device*.

But should that cause other devices to go crazy? The keypad has been like that for a few weeks and the stuff randomly turning on started a few days ago. I verified the time on the ISY is correct and looked at the error log but there's nothing useful there.

My reply was only trying to address the errant KPL device in hopes of solving that issue first. Since you note both devices are not related or linked to the KPL this could be related to the ALL ON issue some have experienced.

The first thing I would do in no specific order of importance is do the following.

1. Determine how old your 2413S PLM is and if its approaching two years it may be failing. Select the HELP tab and see if it shows the PLM is connected and shows the revision number. If not you have an issue, if it does the next step is to run a PLM Link Compare at least 3-5 times with no one moving around or turning things on / off. If the PLM Linc Compare shows something crazy stupid like 5 links thats a sign the PLM is dying too.

You can do a PLM Restore as a quick fix but that's a band aid to the bigger issue of a failing PLM.

2. I would go to the two devices you noted that turned on and select them. See if anything is incorrectly linked to them or verify if a program has been accidentally enabled / linked to them.

3. Hard reset both devices that turned on and also perform a restore device.

If commands were sent successfully, then there would not be an entry in the error log--even thought what was sent was not what you expected. The (regular) log will have a record of which signals (devices) were sent and which were received. Search the log for that particular time and the device involved.

Also look at the links/scene for those devices.

The regular log seems to only work while it's open. Is there any way to keep a log for a week or two of all events?

All you need to do is select the log and save it to your computer.

The log records all events, open or not.

LOG just shows events like HTTP error, DHCP leases, etc.

Event Viewer doesn't show a history from before the Admin Console is open

PLM Link Table shows 78 links, is that an issue?

That'll be true if you only have a few devices. Use the PLM Link Calculator to estimate the number of expected links. the specific value you got is usually an indicator of a failing PLM.

Says I will need 130 links. I checked again and now the count is 50. So when I check the count it should be around 130?

So I'm looking now at the ISY and it's like the status isn't getting updated. I see lights that should be on, but show off. I query the device and the state in the ISY changes to On.

The back of the PLM has a white label with a four digit date code. What is the code?

I was away from home when troubleshooting earlier. When I tried to restore the PLM nothing seemed to  happen and then I was locked out due to a firewall issue. Now when I try to restore the PLM I get this error:

Failed writing PLM master link

(Bedroom Light KPL Load)
[-200000/-3]

Trying to restore the Bedroom Light KPL is very slow and half way through I get an Cannot Communicate with error. But I'm able to switch the light on and off from the ISY.

The date code is V2.0 1444 (is that 44th week of 2014?) and I purchased it from Amazon.com April 2015.

Let it finish and report back what happens. Keep in mind if the PLM is failing the restore is just buying time.

Your PLM has outlasted the expected 2 year subscription. It's time for a renewal B)

The duration of the subscription varies, but it's a bit more than 2 years, coincidentally beyond the length of the warranty.. At that point a renewal is required. No other Insteon devices have that reputation as based on the PLM posts on this forum.

I would dare say for historic recall the following Insteon devices showed very similar failures at or slightly past the two year mark: 2412N SmartLinc, N.O. Load Controller.

I installed a replacement PLM I had (V2.1 date code 15xx)

Restored PLM with no errors shown. But now it's a mess. I'm having to go through all the devices and write updates because lots of them have a green arrow next to them.

Yes, unfortunately those are the steps required and you may also have to do a restore device afterwards for each battery operated hardware. Just get a nice cold beer and get comfortable and just keep clicking away until its done.

Once that task is complete ensure you make another back up of the system so a snap shot of the new 2413S PLM is present for the next *Renewal* period.

Let us know how it goes and please also report back the firmware under the help tab for the PLM.

PLM v9E but this it's also from 2015... I bought one and sent the other one for RMA.

And about the KPL I was complaining about. I reset it and it doesn't seem to actually reset to default. I never get the 3 beeps and the LEDs stay off. If I change the LED brightness on ISY it works... but what's the default LED brightness (I try to read it from another that's at default and it shows 0) and it still beeps whenever I press a button on it, I don't see the option to disable beep in ISY. And even worse everything on that KPL is working but the off button!

I believe v9E is the current shipping firmware in both the hardware revision 2.1 / 2.2 for a while. What is the hardware revision and production date for the KPL?

Older KPL's don't have a *Option* tab in the ISY Series Controller so you will need to turn off the beeper manually as listed in the full users manual.

What do you mean the *OFF* button doesn't work? Are you sure the device isn't defaulted to send ON only? As the device can be set to send ON only, OFF only, and toggle.

Toggle is the default behavior assuming you didn't change it. If the device isn't hard resetting you need to ensure you pull the clear set button out for at least 10 seconds. Once that time elapses you need to push it in all the way and hold it in. Just hold it and you will either see or hear the load flash and beep.

Regardless of the beep just hold it in until you see something happen to the attached load and normally it flashes once. Let us know how that goes and we can move forward with anything else.

I had to press on to turn it on, and on again to turn it off. But that's because it got reset to 8 button mode.

Because you had it configured to 6 button mode before? So is it working fine now?
