shannong Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 So I just found out today the the Elk wireless key fob is garbage. Literally... The battery in it is dead after 3 years and found out today that's it non-replaceable. This unit is now garbage. Effen unreal! I'd like the product designer's home address to go have a 1:1 chat with him. And I don't mean a talk. Anyways.... I see they now have a v2 version with a replaceable CR2032 battery. How civilized! However, I'm not seeing it available on the usual sites. Has anyone else purchased one from reputable web dealer recently and verified they have the v2? The old useless one has weird-shaped colored buttons. The new one is black/white except for the asterisk on the 4th button. Thanks!
Blackbird Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 I have 2, the colored one that I bought separate and the new black one which came with the elk wireless kit. Not sure how to buy the newer version seperate
Blackbird Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 I didn't know that the old style couldn't replace batteries. What a stupid idea. I would try to open it and change it. even if you break it, you have nothing to lose. I'm sure there must be a standard battery in there.
jeffreycowart Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 I bought 2 on eBay a while back. They work great. I see Smart Home has them instock for $55. http://www.smarthome.com/elk-elk-6010-two-way-wireless-4-button-keyfob-remote-control.html Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk
