My concern was a comparison if the screenshots, left vs. right. There was no mention that the different images were made under different conditions. Thus, no real valid comparison can be accurately detected.

I have no answer for that.  You obviously do not understand what I am asking.  Those are notifications.  nothing else.  ignore the top green bar.  It is not part of my app.

For anyone else that has concerns and is not familiar with android.  Ignore the notification bar.  I will never ask questions about the android system in regards to what it wants to display up there.  It especially has no relevance to this topic.  Please do not take tangents with my topics.  I ma hear to a specific reason and I do not appreciate questions that redirect.

At risk of "redirecting".... with all due respect, you can't herd kittens, and shouldn't try. You have a very "helpful" audience that is always going to "redirect".

Users love being involved in the process, rather than only being able to to complain in reviews! They also are singular in ignoring directions.

If you just want to do an A/B poll, and want no other distracting comments, some forums allow you to shut off comments and just conduct the poll. (I don't know if this one does - honestly, this is the first time I've ever seen a poll here. (I suppose I wasn't looking in the right places.m and that's why I didn't vote initially.)

Or, just ask "no comments, please, just want first impression on A/B".

Or simply un-see the comments...

I now redirect you to the regularly-scheduled topic.

I like the right, mostly because of the extra space. Guess Tapatalk on Android doesn't show the vote option. I really wish this forum could have topics stay on subject. If you are not, then go to the coffee shop and start a new post, or don't and continue to drive everyone away.

This thread is not to discuss Tapatalk problems or whine about other posters with off-topic drivel. Maybe take you own advice.

Mine did respond to the OP and why I didn't vote. Yours did not. I'm done with this forum. Thanks for helping make the decision easier.

I'm still interested in this thread, despite the OP's animosity toward my concern B)

Even different colour boxes for different styles of devices would be cool for fast scroll searching.

That is an interesting idea, but I feel it would end up being more of an eye distraction then anything else.

It would definitely have to be mostly grey shades with small mixes of blue, pink, green etc...and I have never thought how many types you could break down into. Definitely by Insteon type but more end device type so that would take user assignment into lights, appliances, stats, sensing devices, etc.

I was thinking automatic colour assignment but an On off plug in could be a heater or lamp.

Colors such as green (e.g., On, Closed, Locked) and red (e.g., Off, Open, Unlocked) would be nice. But, I agree with the OP, too many colors or nuances can be distracting.

I like the use of colors with a backup plan. (For those with color vision deficiency). An accompanying icon might provide a secondary clue, or you might use colors with differing monochrome densities.

I've done a lot of stuff where UI indicates some state of completion - of filling a form, for example, or completion of a task. For most users, the obvious red, green, yellow color clues work, but there is alway some secondary indicator for those for whom that doesn't work. so, e.g. a green checkbox for completed. Most users will notice the green more quickly. Those that can't may have to stare at the page a bit longer.

I find pastels of browns and blues can work nicely for grouping things, as they tend not to have any semantic association to the user. While pastel greens are pleasing, they also can be confusing because of the association with "go", "completed", etc.

Well at least from the poll stats its a clear preference for the style on the right.  I have come up with a few other alterations that will allow for more room for the device name and still keep the icon on the tile.  I plan on updating the icon as well base on suggestions that is was hard to read on the green color.

Red/Green status colors.  I will get to this eventually.  I have had multiple request to make the colors swap based on locale.  I did not plan on this type of customization so I will have to get to that in the future.  I will try to get the next update out in the next few weeks or so.
