Calling the opposite legs of a split, single-phase electric supply phases is absolutely incorrect. Referring to two phases is even more incorrect. There exists a two-phase supply which is entirely different, a two-phase supply has a 90º phase difference as opposed to a single phase difference with has a 180º difference. A two-phase supply is actually still used in Philadelphia.

 

Spelling may be cultural, technology is not.

OK, so it's been a while.  Still haven't swapped out the switch in question, but any ideas as to the other part of my initial question?

 

Mobilinc on iOS would reports some switches as ON when they were actually OFF, or vice versa.  Simply turning the switches ON or OFF in Mobilinc appeared to fix the status.
