ELK ISY Integration Module

Hello Quixote,

You can already do all of this right now without the enhanced module. The only things you cannot do with the current setup are:

1. You cannot use ELK status information in ISY programs

2. You cannot control ELK commands from ISY programs

3. Nodes are mapped statically so whatever you have configured in ISY shows up in ELK and therefore you have a maximum of 255 nodes supported (ELK supports only 255 nodes)

With kind regards,

Michel

Thanks for your response.

So the systems do not actually refer to each other's programs and data directly, but rather by using a file that is generated by the ISY and then transfered to the Elk? I'm assuming that this means that each time you make changes to your programs or lighting setup, you need to regenerate the file and send it again?

Based on the limitations that you outlined, can I conclude that I will be able to use ISY statuses in my Elk tasks (programs), or would that fall under #2?

Also, will the enhanced module eliminate some or all of those three limitations that you mentioned?

Thanks!

Hello Quixote,

1. Yes, you will have to regenerate the ELK export file every time there's a change in ISY configuration

2. Yes, ELK can use the status of devices in its programs. You do not need the enhanced module

3. Yes, the new functionality would reduce the current limitations

With kind regards,

Michel

Thanks Michel,

So I'm guessing that 2 of the three limitations will be taken care of with the module since it's the Elk that has the limitation of only 255 nodes?

Do we have volunteers to do the Wiki documentation?

Hi Michel,

I am not sure I would be a likely candidate to help on the Wiki (since I don’t have an Elk) but I would be more than happy to help in whatever way I could.

I have not installed my ELK yet, but would like to upgrade to 3.1.12 and purchase the ELK Module.

Will this cause problem since the module will not be able to access the ELK?

Can it just be disable and not cause any problems that I have read about other having where their ELK has an older version of firmware or they have some network connectivity problem and ISY logs lots of errors?

I just upgraded and added the ELK module, but my ELK is still in the original packaging. I did not experience any issues. The Module adds a Security System tab but there are no area zones or keypads are reported on the page.

Before I can dig into connecting the ISY to the ELK, I have to remove a 30 year old security system and install this one. I am not looking forward to digging into all those wires. Wires that include all the existing area zones, relocating the power source plus adding new cat5 connections to the keypad, network, telephone and smoke alarms I want to add to the bedrooms.
