Is there even a HomeKit box from anyone reputable that supports z-wave (much less both)?!

Actually that's a VERY good question.  I actually do not know of a single "hub" that supports HomeKit and Z-Wave.  There was the Insteon Hub but it was a lead balloon and there are "bridges" mostly lighting controllers (Caseta)... but I do not know of any multi-purpose "hub" that has native HomeKit... I'm gonna go look now :)

You could use something like indigo or homeseer where a developer has decided to make a plugin for it.

No plugin for HomeSeer yet.... it's also a hot topic over there.  A couple of us (developers) have been discussing it and possibilities but nothing yet.

The plugin went defunct and not maintained.... there's a lot of people wanting HomeKit -- mostly for Siri though which is still actually possible with Siri Shortcuts but requires a lot of setup work from the user.

So in my searching Abode looks to be the only one "trying" to integrate Homekit natively... from their website about the Gen2 Abode hub

On the HomeKit front, abode is 100% committed to bringing that functionality to users across our entire ecosystem of products and plan to have additional news to announce soon as we continue to work with the Apple HomeKit team.

I have moved to https://www.indigodomo.com/ for one of my homes. It’s been nothing but rock solid. The HomeKit plugin one of their users created is amazing. Also configuring everything is way easier than with the ISY. If you can’t wait for Universal Devices to support HomeKit this could be an instant solution.

That looks awesome! I had no idea.. So, just install this on a Mac mini with a 2413U and then add devices? Simple enough.

If Apple is so important to you then I get it. You should find a company that supports your vision as UDI isnt going to be that company.

I'm honestly not trying to be a jerk. I guess that's all I've been waiting to hear. Kinda wish I saw something this clearly stated two years ago though.

Hi guys,

HomeKit works with Homebridge. We have a version working but it's not native. Above and beyond having a bridge in between, we have no plans for native support such as those we have for Echo and Google Assistant.

With kind regards,

Michel

UDI already did. Almost exactly 2 years ago. Most of the blame lies with Apple though, and their requirement for their obscene costs to integrate HomeKit. They're trying to use muscle that they don't have in the Home Automation space to get their way, and while they've had a few takers, most serious home automation products have ignored HomeKit.

They've stated their position from the beginning....As long as Apple requires their chip and certification process, it's not economically feasible.

In regards to developing stuff, they were willing to provide support to someone willing to develop a work around but they would not be the ones doing so

All,
We'll be looking into incorporating HomeBridge into Polisy. This said, Apple is not very keen on having bridges be part of their ecosystem. We do welcome all developers who are willing to figure this out.
With kind regards,
Michel

Polisy runs BSD Unix and has dual-band WiFi and BT 4.0? Sounds damn close to being a HomeKit device already. Sure hope this gets worked out eventually. I wonder how all this relates to OpenHAB? I have it loaded up on a second RPi but haven’t had time to delve into it yet.

Any idea how they are implementing Homekit? It it Apple Software SDK or a hack like Homebridge was?
