leonpc Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Over the weekend I installed a keypadlinc to control a fanlinc. I followed the same instructions as I did before and things seemed to work. However as I was finishing up and putting the switch cover on I noticed that the set button had a faint red glow that stayed on the whole time. I checked some of the other keypadlincs I have installed both connected to fanlincs and otherwise. I have not seen this on any of them. I have looked at documentation and have not seen any mention of the set button shining red. Does anybody have any idea why this may be? TIA
paulbates Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 While I haven't had those exact symptoms, I have some keypads the occasionally need a factory reset and followed by arestore device. Even if its new, it normally doesn't take that long. Paul
leonpc Posted August 31, 2017 Author Posted August 31, 2017 Thanks Paul, I tried the factory reset and then the device restore and the faint red glow is still there.. With one added oddity. Now when I hit a button, the backlights do not come on.
Brian H Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 (edited) If the Factory reset didn't cure the strangeness. Another possibility is you got a bad one. This was a new module not one from the recertified list? I have gotten bad ones from the recertified sales. One of the supposed 100% checked On-Off modules. Rattled and the insides where missing all the mounting screws and insulators. Edited August 31, 2017 by Brian H
paulbates Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 I'm leaning with Brian, that there is something wrong with it. Call SH and see if they have a suggestion or ask them to replace it
leonpc Posted September 9, 2017 Author Posted September 9, 2017 As a follow-up ... I called SmartHome and explained the KeypadLinc behavior and was told that all sounds normal. At that point I asked for an email address and while I had the support person on the phone I recorded a short video whie stepping through some of the things and then sent it to him. End of the story after many tests and resets I was told to return and replace... Glowing red set buttons are NOT normal. Now if Smarthome can only send the replacement item as well as the other two items I am waiting for .....

But the KPL has the ability to inform the user if the device is incorrectly wired. In the past the older KPL's would make a horrible buzz indicating such a miswire. Ensure the next KPL is properly wired and note the *Load* wire is not used for the light fixture any longer. Simply cap off the red load wire and tuck it in . . . NOTE: Information only, newer devices can blink on traffic, blink on error, and blink on ack. Those that support dual color LED's will show the same (IF) enabled.
