Email set-up

I am trying to get email set-up.  When following the directions I get to the pop-up where I try to add addresses, but the "Add' button is always disabled.

I tried using both the default SMTP set-up as well as the Gmail one but neither allowed me to enter any addresses.  I'm assuming I am missing a step but not seeing what that is.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Do you mean that the Add button is grayed out or something else? What's the result if you click on Save?

Yes, the Add button is grayed out.

Save on the smtp settings seems to work ( no errors). I can add a group, then name it, but in the following screen to add emails I am unable to get that to work as I would have expected.

Can you let me know which one of the image captures I loaded here is giving you the problem? Is it the Add Email or Add Email 1 image I loaded here?

Image Add Email.

Just to confirm some basics so you can move forward OK.

1. Please confirm that both firmware and UI match: Help -> About If they do not match go to the appropriate forum and download the required Admin Console and ensure you follow all the steps like clearing out the Java Cache and selecting all option box's. If both firmware and UI match go to step 2.

2. Ensure you fully populate all the required fields for the email attributes for gmail. I've appended my settings for gmail for you to follow and mimic. One thing that isn't called out very clearly is the need to add an extra header to the from section. I have highlighted this in red for you. It can be anything you wish mine is called ISY Series Controller:XXX@gmail.com

Once all of the SMTP attributes are present select SAVE.  Go to step 3.

3. Select *System* and choose the (Reboot) option. Let the system reboot and once up reenter the Admin Console. Now go back to the email and try to add a new contact and let me know if you can.

That did it...an apparent documentation error.

I was leaving the 'From' blank since the documentation said that you could, but apparently that is not true and it is required.  After properly populating that it works fine.  As always, many thanks!!

BTW, what 'risk' did I create by changing that setting in Google regarding 'enable access for less secure apps'?

Hello,

Glad it all worked out so be sure to share this with the next user.

RE: Secure Apps -> Once enabled it uses 2FA (Two Factor / Form Authentication) the other does not. You can search this forum about the pros and cons of doing such and how to do so on the ISY Series Controller.

By default and natively the ISY Series Controller does not support this without supporting elements.

NOTE: There is a difference between two factor vs two form authentication which you can google for the nuances.
