Aeotec Range Extender 6 - extra node for multilevel switch

When you add the Aeotec Range Extender 6 to the ISY an extra node shows up as a Multilevel Switch. If you delete this node it will reappear after a query.

 

Here's Aeotec's response:

 

"This would be a part of the ISY gateway in this case, I unfortunately do not know how to permanently remove child devices from this gateway. The best method I found is to create a folder used for items you plan to keep away from and leave it in that folder.

 

I am assuming you are using the ZW117 Repeater 6 product? This supports Multilevel Switch and Color Command Class which is why these nodes appear."

In addition, among my several Z-Wave devices, there are Multilevel Sensors, Power Management, Pulse Meters, Notify Sensor and even a Glass Breakage Alarm. Thanks for posting the tip about a new folder. I'm using ZW Xtra to keep the folder at the bottom.

My guess would be that the extra nodes allow for the devices you mention to be repeated within the zwave mesh network in the event they're installed.

If you mean repeating the Z-Wave signal, then no. Two of the devices with extraneous nodes are locks. Battery powered device such as locks do not repeat the signal as line-powered Z-Wave devices do. Interestingly, to me, is that the Schlage BE469 has an additional node, but the Schlage FE599 does not.

In that case my 2nd guess is that the ISY is creating phantom Zwave nodes.

I don't believe that it's possible for the ISY to create such nodes, most especially because different Z-wave devices have different nodes although some are the same. Fro example, on the Gen 6 repeater I can turn the indicator on or off, but I don't know what that does other than turning it on or off.

I noticed that as well.  Aeotec said that node was there to support the Multilevel switch but I don't see anything on their product page called multilevel switch so I assume they're referring to a technology.
