Amazon Echo Routines

Amazon has finally added the routines ability. I have one that runs my good night program. Now you just say "Good Night" rather than turn on good night. Much higher WAF. Currently it lists News, Smart Home, Traffic, and Weather as available options to add to your routine.

Routines is listed in the Alexa app under settings.

It’s not actually under the Settings section, but it’s a top-level item (and peer to Settings) in the menu (hamburger icon). At least that’s where it is in iOS.

I just noticed that. It's in both places on my iPhone. They take you to the same place.  :-P

Nice feature. Finally, Alexa can do the same voice shortcuts that Google Home has been able to do all along... Makes my FireTVs even better...

Found it in iOS, but not in the Windows app which I use nearly exclusively.

I was able to set up one program, but nearly all my programs, scenes and devices are not available. Kind of useless.

This is incredible.  I only have 2 routines set up so far;  "Alexa, good morning," and "Alexa, good night."  Good night simply runs my "turn everything off" program, but good morning turns on a light scene, gives me the weather, news briefs, and traffic.

This is such a large stride towards more natural language where you don't have to say "turn on" or "turn off" for something to happen.

The next major natural language breakthrough is going to be when it is possible to speak to an echo in any given room and just say "turn the lights on."  It's weird when I'm in the kitchen and have to say "turn on the kitchen lights," or similar in any other room.  I think this will be coming soon as well.

I already do that with multiple accounts.

I guess I'm just waiting for a more user friendly method then.

Me too. The multiple accounts is too much of a bad idea.

Follow up from post #8. I added the program I wanted to use in the bedroom only to my main account (living room). I selected only the Bedroom (account) Echo as a controller of the program. That works, but the living room (main) Echo runs the program, too. That logic seems to obliterate the ability to use the same command (e.g., light, fan) in each room and having it control only the device in that room.

BTW, it's just me, but I have a 5-digit $$$ sound system. I'm really not into Prime Music on a small device (Sonos fans, disregard this).

I have 5 digits $$$$ just in screens. No big deal and no one cares.

If you mean video screens, then it really matters to you. So, yes, it is a big deal and you care.

And I do have a friend that's as enthusiastic about my sound system as I am. Classical loud and especially reggae, rap and ska super loud, bassy and, most especially, clear. My everyday mainstay is alternative rock B)

Follow up from post #14.

Problem solved. Log out from main account, log into bedroom account. Create a routine in the bedroom account. Delete the "main" erroneous routine. So, multiple accounts are still needed!!!

No one cares what each of us spends. It's just egotistical bragging.

Ah, someone started a new profile just to troll my post. How interesting.

I'm living rent free in someone's head.

EDIT: Troll post by Lil'G has been deleted.

I have $5000 dollars worth of old car because it does matter to me so it's a reliable Toyota. :)

But, Larry, that's only four digits.

I have five on each hand!

Gary. Your echo was better looking than you. She must have  had $5000 worth of photoshopping! :)

Just remember, our California girls have more plastic on them than your Toyota.

Out of context, it can be. But your large screens are a valid reason why you may not enjoy watching a movie on a smartphone.

I enjoy watching movies on many sizes of screen. It entirely depends on the distance between my eyes and the screen.

It's all relative and not an appropriate discussion for this forum.
