Mini Remote 8 Scene & 3-way switches

Recommended Posts

I’m trying to link a button on a new Mini Remote (8 Scene model 2342-222) to a scene for Kitchen Lights. Kitchen Lights is a scene with a 3-way switch set-up. Kit-A and Kit-B are Icon On/Off Switches (one on either side of the kitchen). Kit-A & Kit-B are both working so I know the wiring is OK. Kit-A & Kit-B are linked to an old RemoteLinc (model 2440) and this works. My ISY994-I doesn’t recognize the old RemoteLinc. ISY does recognize the new Mini Remote and I have successfully linked several buttons to single responder devices. I can add one of the Mini Remote buttons to the Kitchen Lights scene but when I press the button, the kitchen lights do not go on.  The ISY shows that all 3 (both Kit-A & Kit-B and the Mini Remote) are on. Please help me … I’m losing my mind.

The Mini Remote, like most battery powered devices, can only be a controller, never a responder. It will always be in the last state sent no matter what other devices in the same do. Not even a program can change that.

Thanks for your reply ...

Yes, I understand that the Mini Remote can only be a controller ... and that is how it is linked in the ISY.  I have a similar scene for the Dining Room, but instead of the Icon On/Off switches I have Icon Dimmer switches.  Adding a button from the Mini Remote to the Dining Room scene works.  Pressing the button on the Mini Remote will correctly operate the Dining Room scene.  The Icon On/Off switches in the Kitchen scene are model 2876SB Ver 4.2.  The Icon Dimmer switches in the Dining Room scene are model 2876DB Ver 4.35.  I just don't understand why the Mini Remote works the Dining Room scene and not the Kitchen scene.

On Level is 100% for both Kitchen scene and Dining Room scene.

I ran a scene test for both scenes but cannot upload the .txt files so I will paste them below.

Note:

     1) Kitchen button on Mini Remote does NOT turn Kitchen lights on or off

     2) Dining Room button on Mini Remote does turn Dining Room lights on and off.

The errors seem to be for the link associated with the button? Three basic things to try

  • Put the remotelinc in link mode (hold its set button down for 3 seconds / beep), and do a restore device?

  • If that doesn't work, try a restore device on the kitchen switches

  • If that doesn't work, they are older switches, factory reset the switches, then restore device (you don't need to delete or re-add them in the ISY)
