greensha Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 This is my first foray in to the world of Z-Wave. I have lots of Insteon devices that all work well. However, I am having problems adding three Trane 524 thermostats to the ISY. I suspect that I need to have the ISY within a few inches of the thermostat for it be added. Because of the locations of thermostats, this would be major pain to accomplish. Currently, my ISY is in the basement, and the thermostats are on the second floor. I bought two Aeon Labs DSD37 repeaters that I was able to add to the ISY without too much trouble. I placed one of the repeaters at an outlet close to one of the thermostats (probably about 2-3m away). The repeater connected with no problem, but I could not get the thermostat to connect. Is it worth buying another controller that I get really close to the thermostats and add them to that controller, and then somehow use the "switch primary controller" function to get them added to the ISY? The Trane thermostat manual uses the Nexia as the example for adding the thermostats to the network. Conversely, adding the Insteon thermostat took about 30 seconds! Unfortunately, I have heat pumps on the second floor and the Insteon heat pump thermostat is no longer in production. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Andy
danbutter Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 Try to exclude first. Then try to include again.
greensha Posted January 28, 2018 Author Posted January 28, 2018 Thank you! That worked for two of the thermostats, but the third one still won't add. I opened the event viewer and there are no communication events to suggest that the thermostat is communicating in anyway with the ISY. I checked the Home ID of the thermostat that won't add and it is different that the two that did connect (the two that connect have the same Home ID). The repeater is about 5 feet from the thermostat and appears to be online. I did a repair network to make sure that everything had a path to the ISY and that seemed to be the case. Maybe I have a bad thermostat? I've got a portable hub arriving in a couple of days so I can try with that. Thanks again!
asbril Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 In general, when considering a new wifi router, think of getting the Google Wifi router. When I have trouble adding a new device to ISY, I connect my ISY to one of the GWF pods close to the new device. Works great for me.
