jblackst5000 Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 This is probably a stupid question but I purchased an Amazon Echo over a year ago, I also purchased the ISY 994 portal and have successfully linked it so I can ask Alexa to turn on/off lights, lock/unlock front door and many other things that are devices in my ISY 994. I now have a 1st generation Echo and am thinking about purchasing a second one. The one I want to purchase is their 2nd generation model. My question is would I need to set up everything again on my new Echo like I did on the 1st one. I plan on putting my older model in our bedroom and place the new model in our Great Room. Thank You, Quote
bmercier Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 You don't have to if you use the same set of configured devices in ISY Portal. You would link you echo skill to the same ISY portal account. On the other hand, if you want your echo to respond to different devices, then you would need to create a a sub-account, a user profile in that account, and obviously, configure devices in that account. stusviews Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 Other than availability, is there any particular reason you want 2nd gen Alexas? I have a mix of both, but no one can tell Quote
kgividen Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 I have 1st and 2nd gen echos and a bunch of different gen dots. If they are all on the same amazon account you shouldn't have to do anything. They will work with the skill. As I just learned on another forum post you might want to setup the group functionality so you can just assign “lights on” to a specific echo for a specific room. That’s done in the Alexa app. Quote

kgividen Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 Info only: That'll work only with the smartphone app. Selecting a specific Echo device is not available from the computer app. That's good to know. I did do it with my iPhone. It is awesome...I have an echo or dot in almost every room now and I can just walk in and say "lights on" in any room. It's great! Quote

This feature will not be complete until the Echo responds to the name "Aziz" Aziz, Light! 1 Quote
jblackst5000 Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 Thanks to everyone for all your help. The reason I am buying a new 2nd generation Echo is that I wanted to have two. I will put my older one in the bedroom and the new 2nd generation in our Great Room. Thanks again for all of the help. Jim Quote
