dbb1 Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 Anyone know if there are screw-in bases available for controlling light bulbs? My front door lights consist of one overhead flood, and two coach lights, one on each side of the door. All three lights are controlled by one switch. I would like to have independent control of the floodlight and the coach lights, so that the coaches could be on with my other landscape lighting, without the floodlight being on. i was hoping to find a simple, screw-in ZWave or Insteon bulb base that would work with the ISY, but I don’t think anything exists. Am open to other suggestions that might help accomplish this.

While I had an older version of this, I don't recommend it is its x-10, and extends the bulbs out further.. probably not the best for outdoor floodlights exposed to the weather. I'd go with Larry's suggestion. Depending how much room there is in the jbox with the switch, a couple of those could do the job. (It might be possible to have one insteon switch and one micro module, however insteon switches take up a lot of room in the jbox) Paul

M socket rockets are a different shape with a huge diameter fat belly in the middle.

Am open to other suggestions that might help accomplish this. I have several Zwave screw-in modules such as this Everspring. I also have the Intermatic HA05C that is smaller. Both work well. In the past I used X-10 screw-in modules but these Zwave devices are much better quality.
Brian H Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 There use to be an Insteon 2454 SocketLinc V2. Screw in Lamp Module. It was discontinued in the earlier days on Insteon. I believe it had technical issues. Like had to be upright in the socket and not in an enclosed fixture. I have not seen anything new recently.

Once all of that is done, can ZWave devices be assigned to an Insteon switchthe within ISY? I also have only Insteon products deployed, so would ZWave/Insteon play well together? Ive gotten rid of all my X10 stuff. Even with bridging the two legs of the electric service, it was just too prone to interference to be reliable across my house.

I used to have Insteon as well but now am Zwave all the way. I am pretty sure that ISY will allow you for Insteon and Zwave modules to work together.

One of the ZWave devices you mentioned was nowhere to be found, and the other one seemed to be pretty large, which was a common complaint among all the user reviews, so I bit the bullet and, even though it wasn't the cheapest route, I went with an Insteon solution. On the other hand, I saved a bit by not having to upgrade my ISY with a ZWave module.. I got an Insteon 6-button 2487S switch, and a couple of the 2443-222 micro on/off switch adapters. In the wall switch junction box, I found the hot lead that fed the coach lights, and removed it from the existing switch. This was then wired so that I had continuous power to the coach lights. The 6-button switch was then wired, so that the main on/off button controlled the porch's overhead flood light. A micro switch was placed behind each coach light ("micro" is a bit of a misnomer. Although they looked small, they did not fit into the pancake j-boxes, which had the romex entering from the rear center, and not the side. Luckily, the coach light back plate was large enough to allow the switch to stay outside of the j-box, while still keeping them covered. We'll see how they hold up to the weather.). Anyway, I now have independent control of the overhead porch light and the coach lights on either side.
