email setup

I'm trying to setup my smtp server using my GMail account, but I keep getting password not accepted. Yes, it is the right password. Searching Google help did not provide any answers. I gather it has something to do with signing in from an appication?

Thanks

In Google you have the option to enable 2FA did you enable said feature / option? Also, ensure you place your email address in the FROM.

Yes I have 2FA turned on, so I get the annoying texts for new devices.

I had something in the from, with my email address. Maybe I'll try just my email address.

Thanks

In your Google account settings, setup a ‘application specific password’ for the ISY to use, along with your email address. Using your regular password will not work as the ISY cannot answer the 2FA challenge.

You also have to turn on the ‘allow less secure applications’ setting. Scary sounding - but unless you turn that on only applications implementing oAuth can authenticate. sMTP authentication is not possible unless you enable this.

The 2FA challenge only occurs once, not each time you sign in. Anyway you can't allow less secure apps if you have 2FA turned on. But as you suggested an app specific password should work. However, I still can't sing in, as I get this:

My Time Out is set to the max now. ?

Hi Bill,

For the sake of checking please ensure your SMTP settings mirror mine and changing out what ever you need for your specific user details. Please ensure the FROM section looks something like what you see here in the image capture. Lastly, if you haven't tried using this port give it a try.

Yep, that's what I had, but no joy. I assume that's an app specific password.

Although my PC has started acting up. Somehow my wallpaper got replaced with ASUS wallpaper. I just purchased an ASUS laptop, but how it got spread to my desktop I don't know. It also would not shut down last night and it's a little slow today. SFC showed nothing, chkdsk was fine, no viruses found, so it must be a rogue process somewhere.

People have no rights to their purchased computers anymore. You just get what you are given on your "rented" machine now. :(

Usually this ricochets back to you from google asking if you want to approve  this before allowing it.

I don't use 2FA or application specific password for this ISY Series Controller. I simply use a really long and complex password which exceeds 12~16 characters. ?

At any rate please clear both logs. Go back to the SMTP tab and select TEST send. Now download both logs and let us know what errors appear.

The UDI WiKi will offer a general idea of the fault issue. This will help narrow down the root cause. Just for fun select the default mail server provided by UDI.

Does mail arrive?

The error log says this when I run the test:

Time                          User         Code    Message
Sat 2018/06/30 03:21:00 PM    System    -50001    -11

Running my test email does not return an error, nor does it send an email.

What's the menu item about requesting an SSL certificate? I think Yahoo requires SSL.

You can. It’s required, otherwise it won’t work. This is how I have my Google account setup, and I use a Yubikey for 2FA.

And yes, in my case I have it set to require it each time.

Edit. Apparently things changed. However - an app specific password should now work regardless (didn’t used to be that way)...
