Admin Console UI flaky?

Recommended Posts

Sometimes when I do something like add a scene, add a new device, create links in a scene, etc, the UI doesn't do anything. Sometimes I get a dialog box with a progress bar, but many times I do not. A lot of times I will get this "no reaction" and then a minute or so later get a prompt to log back in with my username and pass. And again, many times nothing at all will happen, and I eventually have to log out and log back in to see the changes. Overall, it just feels kind of buggy. I've gotten to where I usually "do something" (add a scene, for instance), and then wait for a minute or two, kind of hoping that it will ask me to log back in because then the changes will show up.

Is this typical for most users?

No. This is not typical.
Try to make allowances for your ISY IP address in your Windows, and java firewalls.

Its important that the versions of ISY firmware and admin console line up. One way to do this is to use the new ISY Launcher (start.jnlp) instead of the admin console. Start will take care of downloading and running the correct version of admin console.

Also, we discussed in your other post about the pitfalls of the "crawl method" of device installation. How did you "undo" that?  Since this is a fresh install, you want to start off from a known good state. I suggest factory resetting the ISY and PLM

Then factory reset devices prior to adding them in. Use the install option that deletes all links

Yes, I did undo that. Factory reset everything; started over. In fact, that's what kind of drove me to this post. I was adding new devices and I kept on getting this weird non-response. To make things even weirder, after I made this most recent post, everything went perfect. I think my ISY is reading this forum and started feeling bad! So for now, I think it is all good.

I'm installing the new launcher now.

If a device is powerline only and on the fringes of your electrical system updating those can take longer. I have a couple of those. Updating scenes takes longer for them.

Also, to @larryllix's point, most virus scanning software takes a dim view of any java software thickware, including the Admin console. If you are constantly being prompted to log in again and again, try turning your virus software off temporarily on that workstation. If the problem goes away, then the virus software needs to be configured not scan the Admin Console. There's a post around here somewhere on it. Let's see first if you can disable your virus scanner temporarily, and if the problem goes away when you do. I can find the post if that's the case
