ThisIsTheWay
Hello! I have had an ISY994i/IR PRO working flawlessly for 7, or so, years. Today, out of the blue, it is unreachable via all apps, admin console, even pinging the IP. I tired unplugging/replugging. I tried using a pin in the front to reset. No luck. The power light is on...but that is it. None of the other lights. Did my unit burn out? Is it too old? Is there some other way to try and reset it? I have a backup, so happy to wipe the unit if need be. Edited September 29, 2018 by uffy Link to comment
dbuss
@uffy , 1. Have you logged into your router to see if your ISY is on the router's connected devices list? If so, does the IP address match what you are using in your attempts to ping your ISY? 2. What firmware and UI versions are you using? 3. Have you tried the ISY Launcher? It can be found here. ThisIsTheWay
Thank you for your suggestions. 1) The ISY has a static IP. Currently the router (DHCP server) does not see the ISY. 2) I should be on version 4.3.26. Not sure how to identify UI. 3) ISY finder does not find any device When I try to do a hard reset following instructions " Use a sharp object to push in the Reset Button till the RX, TX, Mem, Error lights start blinking (every second) Hold for at least 30 seconds until all of the the RX, TX, Mem, Error lights turn off and Mem light starts flashing quickly Release and wait for system reboot (reboot is complete when Mem light stops flashing) " --- none of the lights flicker after holding for 1 min. Thank you. Edited September 29, 2018 by uffy Link to comment
dbuss
@uffy, Only Power Light Is On: Most probably power supply related. You can try any power supply that outputs anywhere between 5 volt and 30 volts, center positive, 2mm barrel connector Link to comment
ThisIsTheWay
OK. I think i fixed it. The power supply was not working. Replaced with another i had that is 5v and 1 a When I looked very closely (very hard to see) it looked like the power light was actually flickering. Hope this helps someone in the future. Anyone have a suggestion for a very high quality power supply??? These dinky ones are less than ideal Edited September 29, 2018 by uffy Link to comment
JSP0511
I wanted to jump in and add that I had the same exact problem and before I tried resetting everything I searched and found this thread. Changing the power supply fixed the issue. Thanks for posting this! 1 Link to comment
propman07
I know that this is an old thread....but I figured that I would leave a comment. If I don't get a response, I'll start a new thread with my issue. Came home from work today to see the exterior lights on. Tried to use a few switches, and noticed that the ISY didn't seem to be working. I checked the status lights, and the power light appears dim/possibly flickering. I found this thread, and saw that it might be a bad power supply. I've got one on order that will be here on Thursday. Took a DVM to the existing power supply, and it is outputting 4.95 V DC. I've tried to unplug the PLM module, as well as unplug the ISY. Looking for other troubleshooting tips. Thanks for reading. Link to comment
Brian H
If you measured the power supply and there was no load on it. Like the ISY994i or test load resistor. You will get a false reading. The power supply probably can no longer supply any current if loaded. The dim and flickering power LED is also another indication the power supply is bad and can't supply the proper voltage and current needed to run the ISY994i. I would test the ISY994i with a new power supply before doing anything more. The ISY994i can take a wide voltage range input. 5VDC to 30VDC .500mA or higher current rating, + voltage on center pin. You can try another supply until your new one arrives or wait. The last time I looked. UDI was selling a 12VDC 1Amp replacement on their web store. When you power up the ISY994i with the new supply. Power up the PLM so it is totally booted up. Then power up the ISY994i. So the PLM is found when the ISY994i boots up and you don't get a safe mode start up. I should have thought about the load resistor...thanks for the heads up. I have the PLM plugged into the outlet, so when the new power supply for the ISY994i arrives, I'll be sure to verify the PLM is on (green indicator light on) before I apply power to the ISY. propman07
UPDATE I wanted to post back in case anyone else had the issue of a dim / flickering power light on the ISY. I received my new power supply in the mail the other day. I plugged it in, and crossed my fingers. Sure enough, the power light came on (brighter), and the TX/RX lights started to flash as the unit began to boot. I went online, and verified everything was working as before. Thanks again for the info found here, and good luck to anyone else who searches for this issue, and finds this thread. Link to comment

GPritchard
I had a similar experience a number of months ago. After many years, apparently my original power-supply failed *just enough* to stop my '994. I found a Motorola cable-box power-supply in my parts-bin, rated 12VDC and correct polarity (and much more available current). Although this was higher than the original 5VDC power-supply, apparently the '994 can take quite a wide range. Here's a posting from long ago, where Michel Kohanim says the '994 can accept: 5-30 volt, center positive It worked, and months later this Motorola random-leftover 12V power-supply continues to work. Like @propman07 I did realize, after the power-supply replacement, that my blue LED was brighter. 2 Link to comment
dantoronto
We have a full house of your products including the ELK and ISY products. Everything was working fine until yesterday morning when our ISY was no longer communicating with our Insteon switches, thermostat or alarms. I could not find the ISY using ISY Launcher. Deleted the Java app, cleared the cache and still not found. I tried restarting the ISY 994. All I get is the blue light on top, no other lights. The ethernet connection to our switch does not show that anything is attached to that port. I switched out the cable and the port. No change. I tried to reset the 994. Still no lights other than the blue power light. On our router app, it shows that the "Universal Devices" device is now off line at 192.168.0.12. Any assistance or guidance to get us back on line would be appreciated. We are suddenly living in a not Smart home!!. Thanks Link to comment
stephan
I also wanted to provide feedback that a new power supply worked for me. As of last night (just like @dantoronto) nothing worked anymore. The blue light in the back was on, but the power light in front was very dim and not fully lighted up. I used another power adapter and I am back in business now. Thanks everybody for the tip. -Stephan Link to comment
dantoronto
Just tried a new power cord and you guys are right, worked like a charm!! Strange that the blue light on the 994 was blue and the green light on the plug itself was on . An old Motorola plug worked like a charm. Who would have guessed.? Thanks to the collective wisdom. Brian H
Possible the DC output from the old supply. Was full of AC ripple and the ISY994i could not use it but the LEDs sill where lighting. Maybe dimmer than normal. Link to comment
