fasttimes Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 I’m thinking about adding new zwave devices, but am having flashbacks to Insteon where you had to manually go to every device and link them. Is it possible to add zwave devices by entering their serial number?

Each Zwave device is assigned an ID by the hub (ISY). First you set ISY to "Include" and then, as mentioned by Techman, you click on the Zwave device to activate it, which makes the hub recognizing it and assigning an ID (ZWXYZ)
ellisr63 Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 How would you do this with dimmable relays behind each switch?Sent from my SM-T550 using Tapatalk

ellisr63 Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Could you add them to a makeshift power power setup, and then add them in the wall...sorta like adding a lamp module? Add them before installing by using a pigtail or before closing up the box. Sent from my SM-T550 using Tapatalk

Yes, you can. Make sure to perform a HEAL (Zwave - Tools - Heal Zwave Network) when the device is in its permanent location. That will optimize your Zwave mesh network.
ellisr63 Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Thanks, that makes it much easier to install than trying to activate them in the wall. Yes, you can.
