ArunGupta2014 Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 If I get a subscription to ISY portal and configure the ISY hub with Alexa, can I trigger Alexa routines based on Insteon mini remote 2342-222 key press? Will all events like key press, hold etc. be sent to Alexa? Will all 8 keys show up in Alexa as separate keys? Thanks, Arun Quote

My 4 rocker key mini remotes produces 16 different Insteon codes. Fast on, on, brighten, dim, off, fast off, for each of the four rocker switches. The ISY Portal is not required or used for mini remote to ISY communications. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk Quote
ArunGupta2014 Posted December 22, 2018 Author Posted December 22, 2018 The mini remote keys are not visible in the portal. I had asked about being able to trigger Alexa routine by remote key press. Apparently this will not work. Quote

You can create sync programs to transfer the statuses to programs or variables and use them in Alexa. Quote
ArunGupta2014 Posted December 22, 2018 Author Posted December 22, 2018 I don't see programs or variables in portal devices. All that is visible is physical devices like switches and modules. Quote
ArunGupta2014 Posted December 22, 2018 Author Posted December 22, 2018 Sorry, I was not looking at all tabs. I see the state variables and programs. 1 Quote
ArunGupta2014 Posted December 22, 2018 Author Posted December 22, 2018 (edited) So, I created a state variable, created a program to assign value 1 if key is ON/FAST ON and value 0 if key is OFF/FAST OFF. Worked perfectly. Then I added this state variable as a contact sensor (only contact sensor can trigger Alexa routine) to Alexa via ISY portal. It is detected by Alexa as contact sensor. Within the Alexa app, the status changes from OPEN to CLOSED and CLOSED to OPEN correctly as I press the key. However, this status change fails to trigger the routine. The routine just makes Alexa speak "key pressed" but when I press the key, nothing happens. Edited December 22, 2018 by ArunGupta2014 spelling Quote

ArunGupta2014 Posted December 22, 2018 Author Posted December 22, 2018 I did discover it, that is how I can see the status changed from open to closed in the Alexa app when remote key is pressed... The variable changes status in Admin Console. So, somehow, the remote key, when configured as a contact sensor in Alexa, is not sending proper signal to Alexa to trigger a routine. Something for UDI to look at. Alexa totally supports it. https://developer.amazon.com/blogs/alexa/post/bda9d70c-2f0d-454d-9939-2eb82868cf35/announcing-contact-and-motion-sensor-apis-and-integration-into-alexa-routines-adding-new-home-automation-features-for-customers-and-new-opportunities-for-smart-home-developers Quote
larryllix Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 hmmmm.... I have never used this feature from ISY to Alexa. I could never understand the point of it, duplicating ISY's functions, and preferring ISY to have total control over everything and trying to avoid cloud and especially double cloud methods. I have only used the Alexa Routines from vocal in to vocal out, so far as I only discovered this about a week ago. I only use it to amuse my wife with compliments. Quote
ArunGupta2014 Posted December 22, 2018 Author Posted December 22, 2018 Actually, I should have posted in Alexa Issues. I found similar topic in the link below. A user zerop had the same issue and he said that by turning on live update, the issue was resolved. I do not see live update anywhere in the portal. I am not trying to duplicate ISY functionality. I just want Alexa to say specific words when I press a certain key on remote. For example, when I turn on the bedside lamp, I want Alexa to say "Bedside lamp on". Quote

That is the usage I am looking to do in the near future. I have searched for that "live update" option in the ISY Portal and the Alexa app to no avail. I was sure it was at the top right of the ISY Portal main page before. Grrrrr..... Quote
