Harvvm Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 Anyone using the Ecobee 3 lite with ISY zwave? Costo has it on sale $149 with 2 sensors with a $100 rebate from Comed. Thinking about replacing my Emerson stat.

Thinking about replacing my Emerson stat. I am using with ISY, but it is not Zwave. You must have nodeserver like NodeLink or Polyglot to integrate. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
larryllix Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 ...and NodeLink requires another computer, typically a RPi to run. Polyglot does also but also has a cloud version requiring no extra hardware now. Ecobee interfaces use ecobee's cloud data anyway. It only updates every three minutes though. It's not a problem for a slowly changing stat. I highly recommend the ecobee stats. I have an ecobee3 and ecobee4. I have disabled the ecobee4 Alexa portion though. I hears to many noises as commands. A flat, on the wall microphone array doesn't seem to have the same "ambient sound" analysis as the puck and tower versions. The ecobee stats are very stable and have very accurate sensing with calibratable sensors. They have very advanced fan cycling controls. Cloud monitoring with charting of operation. Programmable user climates (I have only tried 7 so far) (climates are the daily time portions like home, sleep, away, vacation, etc..) I don't use any of the follow me, or auto home/away programming on the ecobees. My house responds too slowly for them to be of any use. However, I do use the sensors to manually switch where I am sensing ie: bedroom sensing during sleep times and gathering room/TV area averaging when i am up and about. You can see all these remote temps in the cloud app as well as a NodeLink pseudo-device in ISY. ecobee stats do not use any local outdoor sensor, but rather an online weather service to predict comfort intelligence as well as make the weather reports available on stat screens as well as inside ISY.
Harvvm Posted February 27, 2019 Author Posted February 27, 2019 Thanks for the replies. I have a RPi but haven't used with my ISY yet. Maybe it's time. This deal is to good to pass up. My Emerson is wifi and I just use it with the app. It has a defect that may cause it to catch fire if powered by 24v. I am using an Insteon at my cottage with a ZTH remote stat. Works out pretty good. Sounds like the Ecobee is similar to the Emerson as far as the cloud goes. Thanks again for the feedback.
