Posted March 1, 20196 yr Hey guys, I'm hoping to get some opinions of which motion sensors people are liking best specifically to trigger programs or set variables. I bought a selection of sensors to try myself... but honestly can't find a clear winner in my limited testing. I'm hoping someone has some longer use experience and can chime in. I have the option to use Insteon, Z-wave, CAO Wireless Tag sensors or ELK wireless (well as soon as I finalize my order and the care package shows up from @Scottmichaelj). None of these will be used for security at all. I have an MSII that seems to be working great for Insteon scene control, and I have a few of the Aeotec Multi 6s. I'm not unhappy with any of these, but wanted to see if I should be looking at another option before I take the plunge to kit out the rest of my home. I do have a PIR Wireless Tag that works great for other things.. but the lag is a little long to be used for what I'm looking for. Thanks for the help!
March 1, 20196 yr I've tried them all, the sensor I prefer is the Zwave Multisensor 6. The advantage it has over Insteon is that its firmware is field upgradeable and its parameters are all software configurable. it can run off of batteries or a 5v power supply.
March 1, 20196 yr Your MS to light on delay should hardly be perceptible if you use an Insteon scene.

I am using the MSII when I'm just controlling Insteon devices/scenes, and will continue to add MSIIs in those situations. What I'm more curious about now is program specific, not necessarily just Insteon commands. I do like the Multi 6s I have a lot, so I could easily see adding more of them if there is no better candidate. Thanks!
March 2, 20196 yr You posted "but the lag is a little long to be used for what I'm looking for. " There shouldn't be any visible lag with Insteon to Insteon. IIRC I am reading that Zwave to Insteon may be more lag..
