Automatic KPL Dimming

Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to automatically dim the KPL buttons at night? I was sleeping on the couch last night, though that’s another story, and the light from the KPL in the living room was illuminating the adjacent wall. I don’t imagine it is possible to schedule the brighter/dimmer LED control since the KPL has to be in programming mode to change the brightness, but it would sure add to the flexibility and convenience of it all.

Good suggestion. This is not an INSTEON limitation but something that was not planned in ISY. It shall be added to the list of our requirements.

I just had a similar idea, but for doing even more. It would be nice to use the ISY for reprogramming Insteon Devices in general, the main goal being to adjust Max On Level and Ramp Rate based on a schedule like :

 

If Sunset + 45 min

 

Then

 

Set Insteon Controller On Level 80%

Set Insteon Controller RampRate 3 seconds

 

 

With such a dymanic programming, it would be possible to create dynamic scene :

 

If XXX

 

Then

 

Set Insteon Device no 1 responder to Insteon Device no 2

 

 

That would offer a LOT of flexibility.

Hi Jacques,

 

You are right the only problem is that most INSTEON switches/devices (except KPLs) require a soft reboot (airgap) before the settings take effect. As such, this would be a half solution.

 

Currently you can do this by putting the device in a scene and control the scene on level ramp rates but it's really not the same. Here's the how-to:
