redridge Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 I don't suppose anyone has tried this. Keypadlincs, because they either have a dimmer or a relay in them. annoy me to no end, as I cannot use them with my setup. The extra red lead which has to be dealt with to preserve gang box splice space, and the annoying click of the relay. Having stuck myself with more than I need but not wanting to waste them, I would like to disable the relay. I have dispensed with the extra lead by cutting it off above the coil and putting a dab of hot plastic over it, and carefully reassembling it so not to disconnect what-ever that is wired to the clear cover (capacitor? antenna? battery?) I thought I could silence that relay button by making sure it is always a non-toggle off, but I've discovered that those off-only buttons can serve as pilot lights for a scene or group of rooms to keep you abreast of any lights left on. That feature is nice but gives me the big "CLICK" whenever the pilot LED illuminates (and when it goes off with the last light of the scene) Has anyone disabled a relay inside a keypadlinc? Just wondering if I have to actually cut a coil lead or if it can be done from the pcb side. Trying to avoid further disassembly to do it. Yes I do realize the warranty issues, and I'll take this down in a day or so.
Brian H Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 Insteon On/Off type modules use a sealed case relay. So you would have to removes it or if you are lucky. Cut the PCB run to the relays coil terminal.
