k5map Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 I have a couple of questions related to my ISY and Z-Wave... 1) I purchased my Z-Wave ISY module a while back. Is there a way to confirm it supports Z-Wave Plus? 2) Is there a Z-Wave motion sensor which is similar in feature to the INSTEON sensor which works with firmware v4.x (not ready to upgrade to v5.x)? Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge, ZWave Plus devices will work with V4. However to take full advantage of ZWave Plus features you will need V5 as well as the new ZWave 500 Dongle. Even with that, some ZWave Plus features may not fully work if your mesh network still has Zwave devices that are not PLUS.

I have not deployed any Z-Wave devices but am planning to do so in the coming month(s). How can I verify if my ISY has the ZWave 500 dongle?
gviliunas Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 One way to tell is to look at the rear of your ISY and see if there is an LED protruding out the back from the zwave dongle. The older 300-series dongle had the LED while the new 500-series dongle does not have the LED.
lilyoyo1 Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 Since you're still on the 4 series branch you have the older dongle. The 500 series automatically ships with 5.0.13. If you're going to start using zwave, you might as well upgrade prior to switching. Once the time comes for you to upgrade, you'll end up having to redo some of your zwave stuff due to changes made between versions. Much easier to start on it from the start versus doing it later. I use fibaro and dome motion sensors. They look the same but I prefer fibaro's mount much much more. Make sure you get a few zwave devices that can be used as repeaters. Any hardwired or plug-in device will work. Since you're starting fresh, ensure you use only zwave plus devices so that you're future proofing your install (to a certain degree).
