Charles514 Posted June 7, 2019 Posted June 7, 2019 Hi, This is an infamous Isy994i not found problem with a twist... I have never used Insteon/ISY994 before. I am new owner of a house with Isy994i/Insteon installed by the previous owner. I have not been able to take control of the Isy994i since the device was not found by the admin console; however the device is properly connected and seen when I log into the router. Rather then playing around with network settings I am now thinking of doing a factory reset, as the algorithm for troubleshooting indicated... Here are my questions: 1. I do not have a backup file and do not have a precise count of the number of the devices that is connected to Insteon PLM/ISY994i. I am concerned that I will lose whatever function (that still work, with some annoyance) I have currently. Will the ISY994i be able to detect the number of devices in the house or is there any way of finding or identifying which devices can be controlled by the ISY994i? There are numberous dimmer switches and keypads and if someone can offer advice as to what to do to plan ahead of the reprogramming that would help. 2. I can ask the previous owner to see if he had a back up of the settings of the ISY994i after factory reset... but would simply revert to the previous network setting as well and recreate the same problem? 3. I was under the impression that the Insteon keypads (8 button ones) are programmed buttons of a dimmer or a group of dimmers. However there are some lights where I actually cannot find a dimmer! Could some buttons on the keypad be the only switch for certain lights? Thanks
Michel Kohanim Posted June 7, 2019 Posted June 7, 2019 @Charles514, There's another way of doing this but there are no guarantees that it will work especially if the your SD Card and/or PLM are really old. What you need to do: 1. Reboot ISY with a different SD Card 2. Factory reset ISY (this puts ISY back to DHCP mode) 3. Put the original SD card back If this works, BACKUP immediately. Alternatively, and if you are familiar with putty, and serial connections, connect a mini USB cable to the monitor port on ISY and the other end to your computer. You may need these drivers. The serial connection parameters are 115200, 8, 1, None. If you don't know the password, you may have to reset first. Once logged in through the terminal, type CT at the prompt followed by the Return button. For IP address, enter 0. This reverts your network settings to DHCP. Hope this helps. With kind regards, Michel
Charles514 Posted June 7, 2019 Author Posted June 7, 2019 Thank you Michel, I just had a look at the ISY994i and there is no microSD card in there. I don't know if the previous owner may have removed it. If I proceeded with a factory reset and successfully log into the admin console, will I be able to call on the Insteon PLM to identify the various insteon devices installed around the house?
Michel Kohanim Posted June 7, 2019 Posted June 7, 2019 @Charles514, Is the error light blinking? If you don't have any SD Card in there, then factory reset is the only option. With regards to crawling the PLM, you can but I do not recommend it. You are going to spend more time than if you start from scratch. In case you wish to proceed: 1. Install a new SD Card and reinstall the firmware 2. Use Option 3 With kind regards, Michel
