TJF1960 Posted June 16, 2009 Share Posted June 16, 2009 I am thinking about removing my old alarm system since it will not work with the ISY and installing a new Elk system. I have been following the forum but I still have some basic questions about what can and cant be done. Can or will the ISY be able to monitor the Elk, or the Elk send a signal to the ISY when any door or window is opened or closed, including the status of the wired motion sensors, whether the Elk is armed or not? Can or will I be able to monitor the status of the Elk system, including any doors or windows that are open via web thru the ISY? Can or will I be able to arm or disarm the Elk, including bypassing zones if need be thru the web thru the ISY? Thanks in advance, Tim Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
MikeB Posted June 16, 2009 Share Posted June 16, 2009 The only thing you can currently do ISY > Elk is arm/disarm through the Admin Console and/or HTML interface. The rest of the Elk integration is the other way around - you can create rules on the Elk to control ISY devices based on status of sensors, etc. There are plans to further the Elk integration soon, but no firm timeline yet. If not, can anyone stipulate as to whether or not they will in the future? It seems to me that it would be extremely wasteful, inefficient and, above all else, expensive to install two motion sensors side-by-side in each room that you want to monitor. Thanks. apostolakisl Posted January 14, 2010 Share Posted January 14, 2010 The elk can respond to changes in the status of insteon items. For example, I can turn my alarm on by purshing button D on the kpl next to my bed. The isy is not necessary for insteon/elk communication, however it certainly simplifies things. With an isy, you can export your entire insteon network and then import that into the elk. This is way easier than manually linking your insteon items to elk. The elk is very good about responding to insteon status changes, but it is not perfect. I would not use an insteon/elk connection for anything critical.
