Newbie runs afoul of Insteon Motion Sensor

I’m running ISY 5.0.15 on a 994I.  So far I’ve been extremely happy with all of it.  Earlier I added an Insteon Motion Sensor II, for the express purpose of turning off kitchen lights that members of my household neglect to do.  The documentation (such as it is) that came with the sensor assumes the presence of an Insteon hub.  I don’t use one.  It also assumes that everyone has the matching APP…which requires the Insteon hub, etc.

With some help from a few of the members here, I was able to set up the sensor to do what I wanted.  I’ve lost whatever that info was and the settings on the sensor have been changed due to circumstances beyond my control.

My first request would be for a document that fully explains the way to set up that sensor for use I an ISY home.  My real request if for help in setting it back to where it was.

I use the sensor to ONLY let ISY know when the room is has been vacant for more than five minutes.  At that point, I shut off the lights.  I don’t care about dawn or dusk, or daylight vs night operation (although that certainly would be nice to be able to understand).

 

Kitchen Occupancy - [ID 0019][Parent 0001]

If

        'Kitchen / Kitchen Occupancy Sensor-Sens' Status is On

Then 

 - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')

 Else

        Wait  2 minutes and 30 seconds

        Set 'Kitchen / Kitchen Overheads' Off

 

 

Any or all enlightenment will be greatly appreciated.

If this program worked before and has stopped only because of some change in sensor settings, the one that I would look for is where you configure it only to send ON commands.  Make sure the sensor is set to send both ON and OFF commands.

Thanks for the response.  My problem is that I don't  know HOW to do that.  The documentation that came with the sensor is useless.  Assume that all I have is the sensor and ISY9941.  What "exactly" do I do to the sensor to make that happen?

Oh.  I misunderstood.  

From the admin console, find and select the motion sensor.  Along the bottom, you should see a button for "options".  Click on it.  You should then see a pop-up with all the options available for the device.

Have you see the user manual and wiki for the ISY-994?

Thank you for your response.  I do have the user manual.   Not sure it's the latest though.  Haven't looked lately at the wiki either.  I'll look into both.  Thanks to your suggestion I did find that the sensor was only looking for motion after a timeout.  I changed that out, and I'll test it later.  Do you know what the sensor option "LED" is for?

Well THAT didn't work either!  My problem is that I don't know how to set up the device itself to to what I want and there's nothing I can find that will teach me.  There's only the two buttons to work with.  You'd think I'd be smart enough to figure it out!  Sadly, wrong!

Unfortunately, this new sensor (apparently) is being kept secret by smarthome and the meaning of each option is only found by speculation and trial/error.

One thing I failed to mention is that motion sensors, like most insteon battery devices, go to sleep after a short time and changes cannot be written to them without first waking them up.  Is there a little green icon next to your sensor in the device list?  If not, have someone trigger the sensor, then perform an immediate query on the device.  Are the setting still as you want them?

What I would also be looking for is confirmation that the motion sensor is sending ON and OFF commands, and that the ISY is seeing them.  Have someone walk by the sensor while you are looking at the admin panel.  Does the sensor change state from off-to-on?  Does the ISY admin panel show the sensor turning off after the timeout period?  If not, you have either a settings issue or a communication issue.  If so, you have a program problem.

I assumed the same.  I turned it off in ISY...to no avail.  Maybe another result of my not having set it up correctly.  If/when I finally get it working right, I'll revisit the LED.

I have never gotten the LED to stop flashing upon motion detection while battery powered.  It does stop when powered by USB, however.

Turns out, after all that wailing and gnashing of teeth, not to mention having to have you people educate me, it was a bad sensor.  Replacing it with one that works solved all my problems.  Thanks to all of you, for all your help.
