jgcharlotte Posted August 3, 2019 Posted August 3, 2019 I know we've discussed this before, but I haven't seen anything yet that solves the problem of unreliable email notifications. I tried using the gmail server and got pretty much the same thing. The only workaround I have is to send a text and an email to my phone, figure they probably won't both fail at the same time.. When I did a several hour test sending a text and email once per minute, they both failed about the same number of times, but never both at the same time. I sure wish I could fix this. Partial log from last night attached.
Techman Posted August 3, 2019 Posted August 3, 2019 The error you're getting is a MAIL SERVER DNS ERROR what parameters do you have set for your email configuration? What version of the ISY firmware and UI are you running?
jgcharlotte Posted August 3, 2019 Author Posted August 3, 2019 Default settings. (default box is checked)
Techman Posted August 3, 2019 Posted August 3, 2019 (edited) Your first problem is that your UI and your ISY firmware are different versions, this can be problematic. Follow the instructions below to update your user interface. After you update the UI then update your ISY firmware to 4.7.3. Be sure to do an ISY backup before and after any updates. Let me know if that resolves your problem. Edited August 3, 2019 by Techman

I'm going to do the UI/firmware updates first and see if that help. Needs to be done anyway.

larryllix Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 (edited) When the last gmail security change went through I found if the UserID and the From box didn't have the same name it wouldn't send the message. Edited August 5, 2019 by larryllix
jgcharlotte Posted August 5, 2019 Author Posted August 5, 2019 Yes, selecting Admin Console, then log in.
paulbates Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 Your firmware is 4.7.3 and admin console is 4.6.2? I would close the admin console, clear java cache and run the launcher again Paul
larryllix Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 Select all the boxes when you clear java cache.
jgcharlotte Posted August 5, 2019 Author Posted August 5, 2019 Firmware is 4.7.0 still. I did clear the cache, but now that I think about it, I think I had the old admin console running. I'll go through it again.
paulbates Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 Ok. One of Michel's steps was to update the firmware to the latest 4.7.3 after installing the launcher (with the UD icon) and making a backup of the ISY. Paul 1
jgcharlotte Posted August 5, 2019 Author Posted August 5, 2019 Well I haven't gotten past updating the UI, unless it doesn't show the latest version until you update the ISY firmware? Which would seem a little odd.
paulbates Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 The launcher matches the UI to the firmware version. I agree that it seems odd that if you are 4.7.0 the ac is a different version. But my suggestion is to follow Michel's directions as written... one of the goals should be to getting to the latest FW. Paul
jgcharlotte Posted August 5, 2019 Author Posted August 5, 2019 Yup, everything reads 4.7.3 now, UI and ISY firmware. Now I'll run my email test for a couple hours and see if I'm still losing emails. Or I can probably tell pretty quickly from the error log. Thanks for the help!
paulbates Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 Ok great. Another thing is making sure that the "Use Default" box on the SMTP settings dialouge got unchecked. Paul
jgcharlotte Posted August 5, 2019 Author Posted August 5, 2019 Well I'm starting with the default on the UDI server first. Not using the gmail yet. I like using the UDI server cause it comes from a unique address and I can give it a unique notification on my phone.
paulbates Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 Yes, but historically its known for reliability problems like you are seeing. That's why the suggestion is to move to forward through your gmail account. One of the things you have to do with your gmail is go to the account and set it for "allow less secure apps" or it won't allow the ISY to proxy through it. I don't know if this was suggested above or not, but this is how I used notifications through my gmail account and I had to set it Paul 1
jgcharlotte Posted August 5, 2019 Author Posted August 5, 2019 I did set it up through the gmail server a couple of months ago, but found I had the same problem. It also dropped emails. So I went back. I did have it set for 'allow less secure etc'. However, I noticed in Kschex post above, that the timeout was set to 5 seconds. I don't recall setting it to that, I think I kept the default, which I think was 1. So that may be a difference too. I will definitely take reliability over phone convenience!
jgcharlotte Posted August 5, 2019 Author Posted August 5, 2019 (edited) Ok, after almost an hour, it dropped an email at 10:46 am. And 10:46 was the only error in the error log: Mon 2019/08/05 10:46:04 AM System -50001 -7 Then another at 10:52 with the same error code. But it dropped an email at noon with no errors in the log. That error indicates your SMTP server timed out. Try increasing the timeout value in the ISY email configuration. What email server are you using? 1
