ronvond Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 I'm preparing to update my z-wave dongle to the 500 series. I've done a full backup of my existing dongle in preparation for the change. A thought occurs to me that since my system is 90+% insteon with only 4 z-wave devices, none of which are in a vital area, perhaps I would be well served by excluding them before switching dongles and then adding them back in. Skipping the restore step. The four devices are all Z-wave plus rated and consist of two Aeotec Smart Switch 6's, one Aeotec MultiSensor 6, and one GE Plug In Outdoor Switch ZW4201. If that sounds like a plan, should they be added as secure devices? I am using UD994 v.5.0.16. Thanks for any advice, Ron
lilyoyo1 Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 I don't use secure as it can slow your zwave network down. If you feel better using secure. For me it's not necessary Whether adding new or using a backup is a personal choice. If the extra steps don't matter then adding fresh is fine
ronvond Posted November 6, 2019 Author Posted November 6, 2019 Thanks for the advice. I will add them as you recommend.
