Hi. My PLM just went out (again... shocker). I’m ordering a new one but on Amazon there are two part numbers. 2413S and 2413U. Any idea which one is the newest? Thanks in advance.

For the ISY you need the 2413S.

The "S" stands for serial port, the "U" is for USB. The ISY only supports the serial port version.

The current hardware version of the serial modem is 2.5. That number will appear on the PLM label.

You may want to ensure you get the latest hardware design. This may require you to go directly to Insteon.

2413S.  Hardware Version 2.5 is the latest recently released. I got mine  directly from Smarthome.

The V2.5 has an updated main board and serial port daughter board. Along with capacitors that are the type for switching power supplies.

Hey guys. So, weird issue. At this point I’m not sure what issue caused/started what.

The initial issue was that everything basically stopped working completely out of no where.  I haven’t changed anything at all in months and all the sudden Programs/Scenes/everything stopped responding. The weird thing was the “restore devices” would process but nothing still seemed to respond. Odd that the ISY could talk to devices to restore them but programs/scenes stopped working. So... I figured it was the PLM. Got a new one yesterday. It was 2.5. I forgot the process so plugged it in then did restore PLM. Didn’t change issue. I then looked up instructions and unplugged everything, then plugged PLM in, then ISY, then did PLM restore. Didn’t change issue. Restored all devices goes through just fine but didn’t change issue.

I then started digging deeper. Some things do seem to be responding now but ONLY if I adjust them one at a time through the admin panel. If I try to do it through Mobi X then nothing responds. I also checked my scenes and almost everything now says “default” under the action but everything should have custom settings.  (I don’t know if things would have responded if changed one at a time in admin panel before I started trying to fix things.  I also don’t know if everything said “default” before I started trying to fix things or that’s another new issue).

I’ve had a lot of weird issues over the years but this is different and has me stumped. Mostly because I feel like I’m chasing my tail. I don’t know when which issue started.  And i don’t know if each new issue that I’m finishing is actually a new issue vs things were messed up the whole time.  Any ideas? Have any of you ever had scenes started reverting to default? That’s def a new one for me.

What can happen is that as the old PLM slowly dies, it corrupts the Insteon System of Record information in the ISY over time. That corrupt information is then written back during Restore Modem. The thing to try is restoring an ISY backup that is before you started having problems... then try restore modem.

If you don't have a workable backup, Restore Device.... device by device, is your only option

Hi @paulbates  Thanks so much for the explanation. I have backups but I’ve been having weird problems for a long time so I’m now afraid that maybe this was the issue and my backups maybe corrupt.

When you say that the only option is to “restore device by device” is that different than doing the restore all devices operation?

That should work too, just be ready to deal with battery devices. If you have the pro firmware you can bypass them and do those at the end. Its the battery icon at the end of the icon bar at the upper left of the AC
