CPRail1 Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 Guys, I have a an Insteon controlled fan that is starting mysteriously at apparently random times. While I've tried many things including restoring the PLM, the most extreme I've done is to delete the device from all scenes within my ISY499 and then deleting the device all together. the fan is wired as the primary on/off of an Insteon 6 button on/off 20 amp 2487S. I thought this set of deletions would prove whether the Insteon device was at fault versus something in the ISY. Well the fan kept coming on at apparently random times so I figured it must be the switch. Now imagine my surprise when, quite by fluke and before I'd physically changed the switch out, I used a scene of which the fan had USED to be a member, only to discover that it would reliably respond to that scene's being turned on and turned off. This despite the fact that the fan does not appear in the scene nor in any of the device listings in the ISY. So, hence my term 'invisible' link. How should I go about troubleshooting this ? I have an ISY-884i/IR PRO running 5.0.16. Cheers and thank you, Peter

Then use the compare option to compare the links with what ISY thinks it should have. You can also, or then, right click and select Restore to install fresh links into the device from ISY and recheck if they match. A factory reset of the device and then restore should repair any link anomalies.
CPRail1 Posted November 27, 2019 Author Posted November 27, 2019 Larry, The device is not showing in the Admin console, hence the 'invisible' comment and the core of my confusion. Recall I deleted the device as part of my original troubleshooting. Thanks, Peter

paulbates Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 If you name it the same it should reappear in programs. You will need to rebuild scenes. To Larry's point it should kill the phantom link. In the future try a restore device before resorting to deletion. Paul
CPRail1 Posted November 28, 2019 Author Posted November 28, 2019 Gents, Appreciated ! Larry - I will do so. Paul - Thank you. Interesting about the name being the handle that ties it into programs. Very useful to know. BTW I did start the whole process with a restore device. The restore PLM was my next major move. Last was the full deletion. I'll tackle this again ! Cheers, Peter
CPRail1 Posted February 12, 2020 Author Posted February 12, 2020 Hi Larry, Paul, Just an update. After having this correction in play for over two months, everything has worked flawlessly. No mysterious activations. Thank you again ! Cheers, Peter
