Problem upgrading firmware to 5.0.16B

After upgrading the firmware on my ISY from 4.7.3 to 5.0.16B my PLM cannot connect to my devices.  I have cleared the Java cache several times, but keep getting an error "Cannot Communicate With" for any of my devices.  The same problem exists with my hardwired and plug in devices.

Can anyone tell me how to get my devices to connect to my PLM.  Everything worked fine until I upgraded the firmware.

Thanks,

Jim

The first thing to check is whether your UI and firmware versions match.  Click on the Help | About menu on your ISY to check.  If they don't match, use the ISY Launcher to solve that problem (see this thread):

The UI and the firmware match, but now I'm getting a message that the ISY is in "Safe Mode."  I'm thinking the PLM may have died.  It's about 3 years old, maybe older.  I'm going to a new PLM and hopefully that will fix the problem.

Thanks,

Jim

It's however odd that happened at the exact moment you upgraded.    There are two download choices, are you certain you downloaded the correct file?

MrBill,

I also had the thought that it was odd that the PLM died exactly when when I upgraded the firmware.  I have a PLM, so I'm guessing the first firmware version is the correct one, which is what I installed and got the "safe mode" warning.  Just to cover all based I tried installing the second firmware version "if  you do NOT have a PLM" (which I think is not the right firmware for my system) and the "safe mode" warning is gone, but I still can't connect with my devices.  I wasn't able to get the UI to match the second firmware version "udi_oadr.5.0.15B.zip" after clearing the Java cache.

The LED on my PLM is dark, which I'm thinking means it's dead.  Maybe it's just a coincidence, or the PLM was dying and installing the new firmware took it over the edge.

Thanks for your help.

Dead LED.. good indicator.

Just out of curiosity did you unplug the PLM during the upgrade?  (My understanding is PLMs die because of a poor choice of capacitors in the power supply, unplugging and replugging would actually be a strain on that component.)

No, I didn't touch the PLM.  Looks like it's just a coincidence.  I hope to have a new PLM tomorrow, then I need to review the procedures for switching to the new one.
