Problem adding GE ZWave Fan Controls to ISY

I have a  isy99i Pro w/ ZWave ver 6+ controller / hub.

I installed a new GE Smart Fan Control successfully by choosing drop down menu item of Add/remove devies.

It was added when I pressed and held the top of the paddle on the switch setting it to I assume 100%

It added the switch to the list of ISY devices, along with 2 keys.

This fan switch was in a wall box about 2 feet from the ISY device.

then I tried to add another GE Smart Fan control in another room about 50 feet from the ISY 99 device, bu it was not seen by ISY deivice.

So I though maybe weak signal.  So I hooked up another GE Smart Fan control switch and plugged it into anothe wall socket about 5 feet from the ISY99.

It does not see the device?  I removed the first deivce, did a factory reset on the ZWave module in the ISY 99

Now I can no longer add any GE Smart ZWave device into the ISY99 device?

Any ideas of how to trouble shoot this issue?

Hi @Gammai,

Zwave can be a little finicky.  Can you describe your system a little more?  The 50ft (does that include walls) could be an issue with the zwave.  If you can install other switches and build the network out from the ISY, that is the probably the best (others may not agree).  In most of my walls that surround the ISY (3 walls) there are at least one hard wired zwave device.

  1. How many zwave devices?
  2. Which ones are battery versus hardwired?
  3. When removed the devices, did you exclude them?
  4. Before you included the devices, did you exclude them?

The only ZWave devices I have in

My Insteon network are the GE Zwave fan controls.

The first one I added yesterday seemed to work fine.  then I tried to add another one about 50 feet away from the first GE Zwave FAn control.

They did not communiate.  I treid to install a 2nd one about 5 feet from the first one.  It was not found by ISY device.

Thats when I used the ZWave menu to remove the first and did a factory reset, then tried to add the original one back into the ISY.

Here is log of events:

It looks like the ISY is trying to include the GE Zwave Fan control but does not seem to get enough information back to add it as a device to the ISY list of smart devices?

You can change the debug to level 3 and post that.

I would attempt to exclude and include the closest one again.  Then circle out from there, excluding and including.

Tanks that did the trick.

I was able to add back in the original Zwave fan switch.  YSI named it ZW 002.. even though it does not show the first install which was named ZW 001...

I then added 2 more Zwave fan switches without further issues.

I see the Zwave devices have to be about 20 feet apart in order to MESH together ..

I order some of the "Aeotec Range Extender 7, Z-Wave Plus Repeater," tp see if this will help with connecting several ZWave devices spread thru out the home.

Again, thanks for the help!
