Zooz Z-Wave Plus S2 Double Switch

Wow, that ended up being a lot of worry for little reason.

The solution started (I think) when I observed by accident that the Zen30 worked well when I had the dual outlet box rotated so that the GE outlet was facing the ISY.  If rotated the other way, it was flakey.  Was the Intermatic shielding the GE, or interfering with it, or intercepting the signal and relaying it incorrectly?  Who knows, but I took the Intermatic out of the box and, lo and behold, the Zen30 worked as long as the GE was between it and the ISY.

That gave me the confidence to proceed with the installation.  I replaced my bathroom outlet with the GE, and installed the Zen30 and a KPL.  Right now, it's all working...except the dimmer STILL needs to be queried if I want the status to be correct when it is manually actuated.  Later I'll capture some logs and post here and/or create a support ticket.  I can turn it on and off in programs, and the status shows correctly then, and that's probably all I really need.  But I'm accustomed to being able to use every switch as a controller or program trigger, so that's my ultimate desire.

@asbril, thanks for the support, and especially for being the original guinea pig for this switch.  It is an (almost) perfect solution for me.

One solution for status update for the dimmer is to create a program that queries every so often. with Zwave Plus it should not be necessary, and in my case the status update is automatic, but  a query program, even as a temporary solution, works well. If not mistaken, you don't have that many Zwave devices, so a query program should not over load your ISY.

I have a few old Zwave switches that don't give status update and I created 2 programs; one for switches that are used all day, and these are queried every 30 minutes and one program for switches that are only used at night, and therefore the query programs runs every 30 minutes from sunset to next sunrise. All together, they are about 10 (old) switches and the query is not an issue. If you only do it for very few switches, then you could even do the query every minute.

BTW your picture shows a professional installation. Bravo.

I declared victory too soon.  The relay switch does report its status to the ISY when manually actuated.  But a program that starts with

If 'ZW 033.1 On-Off Power Switch' is switched On'

never triggers.  Dang it.  @asbril, I'm guessing you have programs triggered by the relay.  Do you do anything special to make it work?

I am not an expert at this ( I am really not an expert at anything :-) ), but try with adding the basic node : right click on switch in your Administrative Console and add Basic control, and then try to use that as trigger in your program.

I want to turn on the fan in another bathroom.  They both exhaust into the same duct, and there's some crossover.  So I want to have both fans on whenever either one is switched on.  Eventually I'll add some timer logic, too.

Status will probably work.  I won't know until I automate the other fan.  It doesn't need a double switch, so I might go with Insteon for that one.  Still mulling it over.

It should as long as the status is properly reported to your ISY. I use the switch for something similar.

The top dimmer is  (wired) connected to the kitchen fan light and I have a separate fan switch for the fan.

The lower on/off part is "virtual" to control my balcony lights.  When my condo was built, there were not supposed to be ceiling lights on the balconies, but they added these at my special request, but then they forgot to add a switch to control those lights (dumb !).  So I put Zwave receptacles and control the lights with  ISY programs. For the balcony near the kitchen I use the bottom part of the Zooz switch.

BTW those receptacles are no longer made, so soon I will replace them with Zwave bulbs.

Nice install. I'm glad that you got it working.

Welcome to the world of zwave. I'd temper your expectations when comparing it to insteon in regards to what you once we're able to do. They are worlds apart in that regards

I have been having "Fun" with this switch.  In my case, I want the Dimmer paddle to be just a virtual switch and the relay to control the line for a couple of sconces.  The sconces have HUE bulbs in them.

My goal was to have the ability to use the dimmer paddle to turn on and off the Hue bulbs through the ISY.

As background we have a well and water softener that runs every few days from 12-4am.  The sconces glow red to warn those of us that wake up to pee in the middle of the night not to flush.  I don't have a 7x24 filter system so unfiltered water would come in at that time.

I keep trying different programs knowing it is futile but maybe there is some way to link together a series of events to get what I want.

I added one of the Zen30s today.   It adds fine.  It shows up in the admin as a device.  I can add it as a controller, but when I query it, it only shows up as a responder despite shown as a controller.  When I go to physically use it as a controller it does nothing.  I did reset parameter 20 to 1 but that had no impact.
