Access Point V1.2 vs V1.5

Does anyone know the specific diffeences / changes between the V1.2 and V1.5 access points?

I had a comm problem pop up out of the blue involving all my motion sensors and random comm failures woth the remotelincs. Obviously some sort of acess point problem it seemed. I have two V1.5 APs at the panel on each leg, and I also had a V1.2 AP at the wiring closet with the PLM.

Simply taking out the V1.2 AP on the PLM made everything work again. I suppose the AP could have failed but it was doing its flashing thing fine so it seems a little unlikely. I'm just wondering if something in the AP revision could be the reason.

Smarthome rarely gives out that type of information. Even to the SDK members. Since it was working for you at one time. The AP may have failed.

The new ones are now Revision 2.0 and they are different enough. To have a new manual. The Access Point web page has separate links to the 1.? and 2.? manuals.

Smartlabs didn't put a confidential tag on the new V2 Access Point data in the FCC Type Acceptance Database; except for the schematic. I have seen the internal photos of the new model. Radically different than the 1.? ones. Has a Beeper and Steve Lee said it also has a bi-color LED.

Thanks for the reply.

I suppose the question becomes whether it is worth replacing all of them to get them to the save rev or not. Sometimes with SH revisions newer is better, sometimes worse. Sometimes mixing revs works, sometimes not. Anyone running a mix of 2.0 and 1.x APs?

I found I was having problems after removing the AP but that turned out to be the PLM which got repowered at the same time and then appeared to the ISY to have 0 links. Remarkably the ISY was able to talk to at least half the controllers - it would jam up not talking on a query on my-lighting about 1/2 way through and just time out doing nothing the rest of the way.

Restoring the PLM seems to have fixed most of the problems so maybe I'll just leave well enough alone and stay with 2 APs. Or just get a new AP and keep it around in case something turns up. I don't know.

Yes I have also seen newer versions of a module have problems. PLMs in particular. Seems Smartlabs fixes a bug in the firmware and introduces a few others or something fixed earlier comes back.

The new V2.0 AP has a completely different power supply and I would wait for field reports before getting an V2.0 units myself.

Sounds like your PLM got glitched and the power cycle unlocked it. Though the Link Table sounds like it got zeroed.

Well, I compromised. I picked up a pair of V2.0 APs for the panel and plugged in one of the V1.5 APs from the panel at the PLM. Everything seems to work OK and it leaves me with a spare which I've found is usually wise.

The V2.0 APs are considerably lighter in weight. I'm assuming this is the changes in the unit's power supply. Whether it was changes for the better or wosrse I guess I'll find out in 2 or 3 years which is when I usually start seeing my SH modules fail.

The red/green LED is a nice - if modest - improvement. As with the V1.5 APs there is no pass-through.
