Relocating ISY

I was going to move my ISY to a different ethernet drop on the other side of the house, to attempt to address some signal issues. It appears by moving it, my ISY console can no longer find it.  I dont want to have to do a factory reset or other major action.  Can I assign it a static IP address? I thought I had done that years ago... maybe not.  Is simply moving the ISY a major issue for a novice like myself?

Generally moving the ISY will not cause any network issues.  How are all the devices on the network connected?  Do you have multiple routers or multiple switches?

I only have one wired router... but multiple "daisy chained" switches.  I moved the ISY one switch closer, and now I've found it at the same IP address as always.  Though, as I think about troubleshooting my network communication issues, it seems like neither the ethernet drop, nor AC outlet of the ISY should matter at all... but the AC outlet this PLM is plugged into is the issue...

dealing with a network that about 50% remains X10... and am hesitant to invest more $$ into X10 or even insteon, as it appears now the future is Zwave.

Your network does matter in regards to where you plug it in. If it's a different network access can be lost (like it was). That has nothing to do with insteon,x10, nor zwave.

If you go with zwave, make sure you purchase multiples initially as zwave requires a strong foundation to work properly

It's likely the ISY had the same IP address even when you weren't able to find it with the AC finder.  If you move it to the farther switch, you can try opening a Command Prompt window (assuming you're using Windows) and then issuing a ping command for that IP address.  If the ISY responds, then you know that the ISY can communicate on the network, and that the issue is with the network topology.  To find the the ISY, the AC finder sends out a certain kind of broadcast message that some switches aren't configured to pass along.

Here's a link to a discussion about this topic, though your issue is with a switch and the discussion is about a separate VLAN:
