Illusion Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 For the past few days I have been having trouble posting anything greater than a few lines. I assumed that this was due the the server migration taking place this weekend, but it is still happening. Any one else having any issues. I am on a Mac and have tried with both Safari and Firefox. An easy way to test is to find a long post, hit quote, and then try to preview. If I do that the site just times out eventually.
Michel Kohanim Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Hi Illusion, The situation has now gone to level 3 support. We are told they should have it fixed "soon". We are right on it. Apologies for the inconvenience. With kind regards, Michel For the past few days I have been having trouble posting anything greater than a few lines. Xathros Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Since the weekend, I have been unable to post here from Firefox on Linux or Windows. I had to revert to IE for this post. Firefox delays for about 60 seconds then prompts to save a php file. I have removed cookies and cleared cache to no avail. IE on XP works fine. -X
Michel Kohanim Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Hi X, I am so very sorry to hear this. We have been unable to get any cooperation from our ISP as of yet. With kind regards, Michel
markens Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Since the weekend, I have been unable to post here from Firefox on Linux or Windows. I had to revert to IE for this post. Firefox delays for about 60 seconds then prompts to save a php file. I have removed cookies and cleared cache to no avail. IE on XP works fine. I'm also still seeing significant response delays for all forum accesses with firefox on XP. And, yes, the occasional prompt to save the returned page as a php file (although I have seen this on occasion for months). Accesses via IE work fine for me, too. I've started doing things in other tabs while waiting for the forum pages to return. --Mark
Michel Kohanim Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Hi Mark, We have already started moving to a different ISP. It's going to be a long and arduous process and a) I do apologize to everyone for all the problems and thank you all for your patience. With kind regards, Michel
markens Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 For what it's worth, things are working fine for me in firefox today. First time since before the weekend. --Mark
MikeB Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 We made some adjustments this afternoon. I'm interested in hearing how things are for everyone. Thanks
Illusion Posted November 13, 2009 Author Posted November 13, 2009 Using my aforementioned test methodology, the problems I experienced that caused me to make that initial post are not currently presenting themselves. Short answer: adjustments appear to have worked.
Xathros Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Looks like its working for me again too. And the speed is back to normal as well. Whatever you changed seems to have resolved the issues. Thanks! -X
Illusion Posted November 27, 2009 Author Posted November 27, 2009 My issues with the site appear to have returned. Having trouble posting again...
Michel Kohanim Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Hi Illusion, We did change some of the DNS records to point to a new machine. It might be the case that some DNS servers out there have not yet received the change in the entry. On my side, everything seems to be quite responsive and I do hope it stays this way. With kind regards, Michel My issues with the site appear to have returned. Having trouble posting again...
Xathros Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 I am also having issues using the forum from anything other than IE on a PC. I have not been able to access the forum for the last 5 days now. -X
bpwwer Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 I am also having issues using the forum from anything other than IE on a PC. I have not been able to access the forum for the last 5 days now. -X You might want to try clearing cookies for forum.universal-devices.com on the machines/browsers you're having problems with. I've had the same problem with FF on Linux for the past week or so and it works fine for a while after I clear the cookies.
MikeB Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 It might be helpful if anyone experiencing issues could send a traceroute log over to us. If you can help, please open a Command Prompt and type: tracert forum.universal-devices.com Please copy the output and email to support@universal-devices.com. Thanks
MikeB Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 We made a change that I hope will help those experiencing issues. Please give it a day or 2 to propagate, be sure to clear your cache, and please let me know if things are better for you. Thanks for your patience.
Xathros Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Well, so far so good. Today its working on my Ubuntu 9.10/Firefox without an issue. I had cleared both my cache and cookies several times over the past week tio no avail. This morning, it just works without doing anything special. Now to catch up on the last week... -X
MikeB Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Thanks for the feedback. Just to be sure you're seeing the effects from the change we made, can you ping forum.universal-devices.com and let me know what IP address it resolves to? Thanks
TJF1960 Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Hi Michael, It may be too early yet but I am still having some trouble downloading pages. If I hit the red X to stop the download the page shows up in the browser. Not a big deal, just wanted to let you know. I ran a ping on forum.universal-devices.com, which showed as ip 64.29.151.221 and timed out 4 times then quit. I also cleared java, cookies and history. Thanks, Tim
MikeB Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Thanks Tim. That is the new IP, so the change has taken effect on your PC. Did you clear you Internet Temporary Files? I'd recommend closing all browsers, clearing the Internet Termporary Files, then rebooting. Which browser are you using? Please keep me informed.
Harold Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 I have a different issuew ith posting. I am using Firefox beta. When I try to submit the post it fails and comes back with a message "No post mode specified". The second try makes it work. I tried to preview first. That added the excitement of also losing the text in the post being submitted.♦
Michel Kohanim Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Hi Harold, Apologies for the inconvenience. I am also using Firefox Beta and I have a much stranger problem: firefox does not close and I have to use the task manager to close it. I am not sure how related they are. Would you be kind enough to try IE/Safari/Chrome and let us if you have the same issues? With kind regards, Michel
Harold Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 I can try IE tomorrow. Something else. I am just starting to put together the home system, and this may be normal. If I open the "keep open" window in FF, I am denied access to any other tab in that instance of FF. I just started a copy of IE and used that since it is not the default browser. That avoids the problem, but I really don't it should work that way with FF.
