ingeborgdot Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 I just installed a new 2477D switch. I have done the procedure just like the other numerous installations that I have done. Well, the problem now is that the switch won't turn the light on or off. The light just stays on all the time. I have the switch set in a scene, and it controls another light. It will turn another light on and off, but it won't turn the main light it's connected to, on or off. What am I doing wrong?

gzahar Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 Are you saying that a light directly wired to the red load wire of the switch doesn’t go off (or on) when the switch paddle is pressed then either the switch is bad or it is wired wrong. Try pulling out the air gap (the bottom middle set button that can be very difficult to do) and see if it turns off. If not, then probably wired wrong?If you are saying the light doesn’t change when commanded from admin console, then turn off/on from switch and see if status updates in AC. If not, then probably a signal/noise issue or PLM problem. Otherwise, please provide more details of what the problem is.
ingeborgdot Posted June 30, 2021 Author Posted June 30, 2021 When I pull the air gap, the light goes out. I really think it is a bad switch. I have 40 other switches and outlets, and they are all working well. Two switches that are beside it, work just fine. The problem is that the switch doesn't turn off the light it is connected directly to. I just replaced an old insteon switch that actually worked, but was over 10 years old. I wanted to have the dual option. I hooked it up exactly like the old one was wired.

Brian H Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 If the light is always On and but the LED level indicators go up and down. It is probebly defective as you thought. Maybe the triac is shorted so the load is always On. 1
larryllix Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 Check your wiring very carefully. It may be the colours in the box are wrong or the coloured conductors coming out of the switch are wrong. Quality Assurance means the switch was never tested in the factory.
ingeborgdot Posted June 30, 2021 Author Posted June 30, 2021 The wiring is properly done. I just found another switch I didn't know I had, and wired it up. It works like a charm. Time to get a replacement for the defective one.
larryllix Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 Yeah, either way it is defective. After other components I have received from Insteon, I wonder if the wire colours were installed incorrectly to the device by the manufacturer.

I use a few for my porch/deck lights that are WiFi only. It gives some manual control via ISY locally at the doors.
