Polisy Support

Just received my new Polisy Pro. Where do I post questions about it? I don’t see a Forum for Polisy Users, I'm not a Developer (yet?) just Polygot subjects.

General questions about WiFi & Bluetooth control. How do I use these features

Moving Polygot-Cloud node servers to local network?

What else does this Polisy box do?

Why 3 network connectors?

Most of the answers to your questions are covered in threads in this sub-forum.   At this point in the game UDI should rename this, or if renaming isn't possible at least open a new sub-forum in the same bread crumb (this is Home > Polisy > Geek Batch).

Wifi (other than joining a network) and Bluetooth control haven't yet been developed.

Moving Polygot-Cloud node servers to local network?

To move from PGC to local, there is no automatic path.  Close the Admin Console, stop and delete the cloud instance of the NS, reinstall it as local.   In general, it's not all bad to leave the instances that talk to another cloud service on PCG.  Examples include the Weather nodeservers, and MyQ... and really most of them.

NodeServers that talk directly on your local hardware on the local network are the Nodeservers that must be installed locally.  This is why you see 2 different stores lists...  In some cases the nodeserver can't be cloud based, sometimes both can exist, and other times cloud is only suitable.

The Rachio NS also draws a special mention from me. It only talks to Rachio's cloud API and has local versions and a cloud version.  The local version requires and open port tho, therefor I run it on PCG so that I don't need to open a local port.

Why 3 network connectors?

why not?

in reality we don't know, today only one is used.  In the future they might be used for direct connection of a network appliance, which would allow direct traffic that doesn't travel via the local network.   I don't believe the motherboard is UDI's original design, it's a board they mass purchased and built a box around, exposing connections they thought would be most useful in the future.

Well, I paid extra for the PRO version to get Wifi and Bluetooth. Sorta feel gypped.

I have the pro version too (and a 2nd non-pro i bought for experimentation).  I don't really feel gypped, but I also was an early decider that bought it pre-production.  I've also been around long enough to know that development at UDI is slow but steady, so I'm not particularly surprised we aren't there yet.

Au contraire......, you are smart to have purchased the Pro as the Wifi & Bluetooth capabilities will become functional and you would feel  "gypped" (whatever that means ?) not having these capabilities.

As long as I was smart I’m okay with it. Perhaps, though, to avoid confusion and in the interest of transparency, UDI could have labeled those features as “coming soon”.

I understand your comment but those of us following the Polisy developments, since it first was brought to our attention in this forum, were well aware of this.

Sure. I bought a desktop PC with a serial port, parallel printer port and eight USB ports but I haven;t seen any software that uses them for decades.

IOW: The polisy computer was was hardware designed with these ports. It doesn't mean ISY994 software will ever utilise them. UDI purchased an existing design, and had minor customisations made to it, to keep the costs down for their users. Nobody will ever use BT either. It's range is typically 6 feet. How would that be useful in HA?

I wouldn't feel gypped if I were you. While I base my installs on what I can do today, I still keep an eye towards the future. Even if it's just a 1 room/situation install where I could potentially use a lesser system, I would still use the isy pro with zwave (keeping the discussion with insteon). Why? You never know what someone will want to add.

Today they just want their Christmas lights or outside lights being controlled. Tomorrow, they the bedroom and living room. I'd rather have the infrastructure in place than nickel and dime someone trying to get extra stuff going for them. The same applies for Polisy. I don't need wifi. With Polisy being plugged into my network, it'll discover other devices on my network anyway. Sure, it would be nice to move it around to different locations (i think you can do that already), but it's easier and cheaper to buy a few more devices to get better range than try and find the ideal spot.

THe same applies to Bluetooth. What would you realistically use it for? Yes, there are some use cases today but is it needed that much right now that it hurts not having it? In the future, that may change. I'd rather have the pro now and not use those features than get the cheaper version only to find i need to buy more parts to be able to use something later

I'm going to argue with that... Our TV remote is bluetooth and work 40-50 feet away.  (one Cable box feeds 3 TV, the remote works fine on the 3rd 40-50feet away and thru a wall.   Sony claims the range is 30 feetWikipedia states 10 meters or 33ft.

Just to clarify my position. I’m extremely happy with the Pro. I’ve had it 2 days and 5 node servers later I’m amazed. I didn’t know at the time what I needed the WiFi and Bluetooth for. But, I got the May promo discount and supersized it. Not the first time I’ve stepped up only to be prepared for future expansion. It’s just that UDI could have made that a little clearer for those of us that don’t follow UDI that closely.
