Cannot determine a valid Java Home

Recommended Posts

I followed the instructions in the first post.  The ISY Launcher app was created on my desktop.  However, when the app is initiated a window pops up with "Cannot determine a valid Java Home".  The header on the pop up window is:  Java(TM) Web Start 11.171.2.11-fcs.

I can start the ISY Finder by selecting from the Java control panel General->Temporary Internet Files->view and running the ISY Launcher.  Then I can right click on the link in the ISY Finder to launch the administrative console.  Clearly there should be an easier way.

I repeated the installation process multiple times and each time the ISY Launcher started with the same message.

Trying clearing your java cache including all applications which will delete the finder from your desktop then download the ISY finder again.

Reboot your computer before you download the finder,

What version of Java?  recent Java install or old java install?  Windows or mac?  Did the installed java come from the offical Java website https://java.com/en/ or someplace else?

AS per @Techman's post above. You run it from it's own app icon, not java console.

As I said in the first paragraph of my post.  I get the error message when I try to run from the app icon.

You may have but you skipped the questions I asked entirely....

Sorry.  I did miss your question.  It is Version 8 Update 301 (build 1.8.0_301-b09).  Yes it came from the official Java website.

Running on Windows 10 version 20H2

It's possible that Java didn't get installed in the default folder. If that's the case, uninstall and reinstall it.

The default location for Windows 10 is :C:\:ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Java

I followed Techman's advise.  The app started.  I closed the app and tried to open it again and got the "Cannot determine java home" message again.  But I can launch the app from the Java cash viewer page.

I went through this.  However, it starts out with setting path to JDK not JRE.  I have a JRE directory.  I subtended JRE for JDK and followed the procedure but had no effect.

I cleared the cache and application and ran the start.exe again.  The ISY Finder starts on it's own as part of install but once closed activating the desktop link results in the same message.

The file "Start.jnlp" came from the link you posted.  It downloaded to computer and I executed it.

Firm where is 5.2.0

When you open the ISY launcher what firmware version displays for the ISY?

Sorry, poor spelling.   Firmware is 5.2.0

If you're still having issues you may want to update your ISY to the latest firmware 5.3.4 and then clear your Java cache and applications and download the ISY finder again.

The update from 5.2.0 to 5.3.4 is painless.

@60Driver, at this point I think it’s best if you open a ticket with support to get some one-on-one support. They may be able to help make sure you’re properly installing Java and the launcher app.

Please submit a ticket via email to:  support@universal-devices.com

Good luck!
