Roman Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Trying to use the ISY Portal so that I do not have to Open any ports on the router. That said my IPhone 7 Plus working fine however upgraded another IPhone to 12 PRO MAX and it seems location/GEOFENCE not working using ORCHMOBILINC app on IPHONE. Cannot change settings on the APP when connected to ISY Portal as far as GEOFENCE variables go, yet no issues when using WiFi... Anyone else having issues Also both the IPhone 7 Plus and IPhone 12 PRO MAX on IOS 15.1 Thanks Roman
MrBill Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 (edited) to clarify, are you using the ISY Portal, or Mobilinc Connect? Edit to clarify: ISY Portal and Mobilinc Connect are two different portals, only one or the other can be used, they can't be used concurrently. I suspect you are using Mobilinc Connect as it has geolocation capabilities whereas with ISY portal there is no built in functionality. If mobilinc connect, please also click the 3 dots in the upper right corner of you post and select "report", and then in the popup window type "please move this to the mobilinc subforum" Edited October 7, 2021 by MrBill 1
Geddy Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 4 hours ago, Roman said: ISY Portal... not Mobilinc Connect Make sure that you are allowing location tracking "always" (if that's an option) for the app you are trying to have update your location. It's possible that iOS 15.1 (I think it's still "beta") might have some bugs or could have been that you didn't allow location tracking when you first used the app on the new phone. 6 hours ago, Roman said: it seems location/GEOFENCE not working using ORCHMOBILINC app on IPHONE It's also possible that the app finally broke under iOS 15 since it hasn't been updated in 3 years. (4.17 was released 3 years ago). Sounds like it might be something you seek support from MobiLinc. Perhaps @InsteonNut can chime in to see if there's something you can do with existing app or if you need something else. 1
InsteonNut Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 I received reports that iOS 15.0 broke geo-fencing but was fixed in the early beta of 15.1. Apple hasn't changed anything here with the developer API with regards to geo-fencing, so currently we're waiting for the release of 15.1 to the public to fix this issue Apple introduced. If you are able to run 15.1 and you still have trouble with geo-fencing, my best suggestion at this time is to delete your geo-fences and re-create these and turn on the geo-fence notification feature in MobiLinc. That way you'll know that iOS is telling MobiLinc when the boundary is crossed. If your ISY's variable isn't switching from/to 1/0 then you'll know it's a communication issue at that point and not a geo-fence issue. Wes 1

Wes Thanks Wes, well upgraded to IOS 15.1 on my Apple 12 Pro Max.. and Notice unlike my Iphone 7plus running still on version IOS 14.x when I enter GEOFENCE zone, 7Plus consistently updates but my new Iphone 12 running IOS 15.1 do not see the notifications consistently that I have entered or exited my GEOFENCE zone as well or obviously then the variable of me entering/exiting does not change from 0/1 etc.. Though upgrading to IOS 15.1 did start having some success but definately not consistent. Almost as if the software is going into sleep mode ??? Roman

If you're using the ISY portal and Locative App, delete Locative, restart your phone and then re-install Locative. Both my iPhones had this problem after upgrade from iOS 14.x to iOS15.
Geddy Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 @Roman Did you delete the geofence in MobiLinc? However, if all you're trying to do is get geofence to work again you might consider Locative App and ISY Portal + Occupancy Node Server (if you're running 5.x on the ISY). As @MrBill points out it's working on iOS15 using that method. Steps to set this up can be found in the Wiki. It's possible for some reason Apple might be killing the Mobilinc app or you haven't allowed locations to always active. I know that was a problem for me in iOS14 until making that change. That is in the settings for iOS in "Privacy Settings" -> "Location Services". Make sure Mobilinc is set to "Always" for "Allow Location Access". If it is already then there should be a purple icon. If it's outlined it's running when needed. Solid purple arrow has recently used location. (I assume this is still the same in iOS15.1, but there could have been some adjustments.)

Well I have 2 iPhones iPhone 7 and iPhone 7Plus still running IOS14.x, no issues, Upgraded my phone iPhone 12 Pro Max to IOS 15.1 and having GOEFENCE issues using the app OrchMobiLinc... but only on the iPhone with IOS15.1... So I would conclude for now that IOS 15.1 is buggy... I do occasionally have the iPhone GEOFENCE work but maybe 10% of the time.. Hopefully next update will fix this issue... Roman
MrBill Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 Apparently there is a known issue with geofences and iOS 15. FWIW, I solved the problem for my wife and I by reinstalling Locative app, it's worked perfectly for us since... (reinstall was early in iOS 15, life, probably during 15.01's cycle) https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253247480 (skip the marked "answer" and read the rest of the thread)
InsteonNut Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 Hi folks, Thanks @MrBill for that discussion link. Yes, Apple really has broken something with geo-fencing here that I have no visibility into. I'm running the latest iOS 15.2 beta and what I see now is iOS 15.2 telling MobiLinc that the phone has "left" the region, but iOS isn't telling MobiLinc when the phone returns to the region. It seemed more stable on iOS 15.1. At least there I got both Enter and Leave notifications to fire with MobiLinc. I'll keep testing their beta releases and update this thread should anything change. wrj0 Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 With Locative I had luck with delete and reinstall on two phones.@MrBill Thanks, I saw that in your earlier response. Did you have to re-create the Geofences in Locative after deleting/reinstalling?

I can live with this until the fix comes.. I also notice a huge lag in Find My iPhone almost takes 30-60 seconds to sync up to find my iPhone... 1

Deleted GEOFENCE, in ISY, within then completed deleted and reinstalled OrchMobiLinc, created new GEOFENCE, no success... Though manually can set the variable, did noticed as soon as I upgraded to IOS 15.x that when I would enter and exit the GEOFENCE location was no longer getting notifications that I had entered and existed the GEOFENCE.. every once in a while very very scarce it would work, but as mentioned before seemed to help if I opened the Maps app, Find My iPhone app, and also had just opened the app OrchMobiLinc.. which when opened noticed now gives me the Disconnected from MobiLinc error and then connects within 15-30 seconds.. Definitely I would conclude issue with IOS 15.x Roman

I copy/pasted to the 2 links to a Note before deleting the app. Don't forget when fine tuning on the tiny map you can pinch out to zoom. Also you need to visit settings > Privacy and Locations Services to set "Always" because for some reason that doesn't seem to be an option when the app asks permission for using location. I didn't do anything on the ISY/portal side. Edited November 6, 2021 by MrBill
wrj0 Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Sure enough, deleting/reinstalling Locative and then rebuilding the geofences restored the notifications for me in iOS 15.1. 1

Not using Locative but using OrchMobiLinc. That said we have concluded that IOS 15.1 location services does not work on most apps and more and more posts have confirmed this. That said I am reading that IOS 15.2 should be out next 2-3 weeks, anyone Beta testing IOS 15.2 and does it fix the location issue that we are experiencing within IOS 15.1 ? Curious...
wrj0 Posted November 16, 2021 Posted November 16, 2021 Sure enough, deleting/reinstalling Locative and then rebuilding the geofences restored the notifications for me in iOS 15.1.After the reinstall, it turns out Locative only worked the first time exiting one of my geofences and the first time entering another geofence at a distant location. Subsequent crossing either boundary no longer triggers Locative. It seems an update to iOS 15.1 is indeed needed to correct this problem.

My phone worked for a long time after Locative was reinstalled. The magic is gone tho, it's not noticing GeoFences anymore, my wifes as stopped as well. iOS 15.1 doesn't solve the issue. Beta 15.2 doesn't either. It remains to be seen if Apple will get a fix into 1.5.2 but it doesn't look good.
Roman Posted November 17, 2021 Author Posted November 17, 2021 Just received an update and installed IOS 15.1.1. Only notes I see is it improves dropped calls for iPhone 12 and 13.. Doubt that the GEOFENCE got fixed but one can only hope... will see for just installed the update. Roman
MrBill Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 (edited) I know that there is no point for any of us to open a case with Apple. All we would do is spend a lot of time troubleshooting something that we all know from other posts on the internet is broken for everyone. I would suggest that everyone go to apple.com/feedback and send a feedback on the topic tho. Something along the lines of: "I'm aware from online posts, including Apple Support forum, that iOS 15 broke GeoFences, what I don't understand is why this is not a priority bug fix. iOS was released on September 20th and almost 2 months later there is no fix that anyone knows of in sight. App Developers themselves state they are waiting on Apple." Apple does human read every /feedback (or they claim they do) but even if they are read by an AI bot getting enough /feedback submitted with the words iOS 15 and GeoFence and broken and bug can't hurt anything. Send /feedback to apple today! Edited November 18, 2021 by MrBill 1
