ISY994 Pro - Slow Responding?

Hi,

I upgraded from 4.x to 5.3.2 and overall it has been fine.  I noticed lights not responding timely, multiple tries to get it going, etc.

I logged into the java admin locally and it is really 'sluggish' feeling & I am not sure what is causing it.

The 'system busy' at the bottom left seems to be stuck on it.  I rebooted the PC, rebooted the ISY & the behavior is consistantly slow.

Typically when I go to the admin java app its a fast process but this takes a much longer time.

Any tips?

Thanks,

Rich

Follow THIS INSTRUCTION to increase the Java Cache.   Personally i use -Xmx1024m instead of -Xmx512m

Keep in mind that anytime you clear your Java cache or a java update installs you will need to repeat this procedure.

When you update from 4.xx to 5.x.x it requires some user intervention. Did you read the update instructions. Click on the image below.  You also should verify that both your Firmware and UI are the same version.

It's also possible that one of your programs is in a loop.

@RichTJ99 what do you mean lights are not responding "timely"? Is this switch related, program related, or voice (Alexa/Google) related?

Once you get Java working quicker (as @MrBill posted) be sure you check the program status page to see if they're looping or need updating (as @Techman posted the upgrade to 5.x needs some intervention on the programs - specifically any that "adjust scene").

Seems like you're fighting two strange occurrences though. Once you get the Java memory bumped up you should be better able to adjust the programs without it feeling sluggish.

If you continue to have problems it's a good idea to start a support ticket with Universal Devices and they'll be able to give assistance and personal troubleshooting processes.

Good luck!

If system busy is constantly showing then it may be trying to write changes to wireless devices. Turn that off and see if it helps, also check the status to see exactly what it's doing to keep it busy.

Thanks for the java idea - that worked well.  I am looking at the level 3 event viewer and looks like I had a few older devices which arent plugged in anymore.  The deletion process takes a very long time as i have a huge insteon setup.

Is there a way to make the wireless devices (motion, trigger, etc) all skip for the mass deletions & then maybe manually update them later?

I have about 25 wireless 'things' all over & i get to spread out for the five minute window.

turn off wireless writes:

Press that button so that it's greyed out.  Once you get your unactive devices deleted, you need to study the device tree looking for 1011 icons.  those are wireless devices that need data written.  Unfortunately it will probably be a slow painful process if you have very many.    When you get to this phase put as many of the wireless devices with 1011 icons on the tree into setup mode that you can each time you do wireless writes.

What's happening now is that every time you are writing to devices to delete and item it's trying to write to wireless devices.. and it's taking a lot of time to error out.

Thank you - I am also wondering if my issue may be going beyond the 900 links.  Not sure if there is a way around it or if Insteon mades a newer PLM with more links?

be aware, it's very hard to get accurate link counts, especially with 25 wireless devices randomly sending heartbeats... to count links there must be absolutely ZERO other insteaon traffic during the count.

more than likely your issue is ISY needing to write to wireless devices which require manually being put into setup mode.

I did delete a few scenes that werent really used, deleted some older devices and my link count ranges from 600 to 900 to 1600.  Very confusing.  I did a restore PLM also.

like I mentioned, link counts are very hard to do, especially on large systems, especially with wireless devices.  ANY Insteon traffic during the link count will invalidate the link count.  That's why you're getting confusing results from 600,900,1600... traffic occurred during the count.

I also think you paying too much attention to the wrong thing.  You upgraded from 4.x to 5.x... you didn't have a link count problem before that, and the upgrade didn't change your link count.

Study your device tree, especially wireless devices do you see little 1011 icons that look like this: image.png.fab76ad11327250a4d8729c51b2a5926.png or this image.png.f130867f91bbfd4fe2d6c5379be3587c.png?  If so, that is your problem.
