This looks like an interesting possibility, due to its small size,  once it becomes available again. Anyone know if it has been tested with the Polisy.

IIRC no Zwave dongles have been tested with polisy, as no support for Zwave has been released yet, according to UDI's 's last polisy announcement.

True, but Michel mentioned that UD is testing Zwave on Polisy with the 7-series Zooz dongle.  Most likely Zooz saw a surge of purchases when this was posted...... including mine.

Michel did announce the Z-wave stick would be the Zooz 700 Series.

All,

1. Z-Wave is working in the lab but cannot give you an ETA
2. We are using Zooz 700 Series stick. They seem to be in stock
3. The first iteration will be based on what we have in ISY since certification is a nightmare and will take months

With kind regards,
Michel

Does the Zooz 700 stick, when plugged into the Polisy, leave enough room to plug in a USB cable for a USB PLM?

You're likely better off using a short USB extension (M->F) cord to get the antenna away from other RF interference and position it as you like.

Found this on Amazon. It looks like it may be a tight fit as there's not much room between the two usb ports  but I'll give it a try.

Amazon.com: Posdou USB 3.0 Male to Female 90 Degree Right Angle Extension Adapter, USB Upward and Downward Connector : Electronics

@Techman

I bought a right angle adapter on Amazon and it fits with a USB cable plugged into the lower port going to the USB PLM.  The two do not touch each other.  I got this one:

I'm going to try that first when Polisy is ready to accept Z-Wave, but I might do as others have suggested and use a cable to remote mount it.  Probably will try both ways to see if there are any advantages to one or the other.

Anyone tried this cable for the serial PLM to the Polisy. I'm not sure if the wiring will be compatible.

Amazon.com: RJ45 to RS232,LFHUKEJI DB9 9-Pin Serial Port Female to RJ45 Female Cat5 Ethernet LAN Console 3.3Ft : Industrial & Scientific

There's always this device: https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Serial-adapter-DB-9-RJ-45/dp/B00006IRQA/ which could be used with a plain ethernet cable.

I would think someday UDI would identify a cable on Amazon with known compatibility.  There have been multiple forum posts on the topic, but no word from @Michel Kohanim

IIRC my PLMs came with a 9 pin D connector to RJ45 cable. I will have to look in my junk box. Been years now.

No cables included with the PLM here, maybe it was a Canadian bonus.

Nope.  My serials PLMs both came with DB9 to RJ45, and it works with Polisy (I've tested).

RF interference be damned.
I have both a Zooz z wave dongle and an insteon 2448A7 usb stick jammed into my Polisy. Neither feels warm to the touch.

dmesg shows them both.

@Techman

just tuned in to this discussion so apologize if this is something you already know.

I checked an old Serial PLM box and a new USB PLM box and my cables are inside one of the sleeves in the boxes.

When everyone was saying they received cables, I also thought I did not get any.  But I looked a second time and, as I said, they are hidden in the sleeve.

Hope you find them

Thanks for the heads up, just found the cable hidden in the sleeve.

They do hide them in the boxes sometimes and who keeps digging after you strike gold?

Glad you didn't toss the box. That means users should be able to transfer firmware and PLM to polisy, get it running, and then trade for a USB PLM if desired.

I can confirm it does.

Received my Zooz 700 today - plugged it right in... got this in /var/log/messages

Nov  8 17:49:04 polisy kernel: ugen0.3: <Silicon Labs CP2102N USB to UART Bridge Controller> at usbus0
Nov  8 17:49:04 polisy kernel: uslcom0 on uhub0
Nov  8 17:49:04 polisy kernel: uslcom0: <Silicon Labs CP2102N USB to UART Bridge Controller, class 0/0, rev 2.00/1.00, addr 2> on usbus0

I know if wont work yet - but (hopefully) all ready to go!

Does the 2448A7 work for Insteon control (assuming strong wireless to wired bridging)?

This would be amazing - and remove a common failure mode (power issues bricking the PLM)

The SiLabs unit also fits both PLM cable and 700 series Zwave dongle.

There must be a USB standard size anyway.

Polisy with 2448A7 works so far.

Caveat - only one test insteon device (outdoor switch dongle) linked so far. But it works at over 100 feet. And in parallel, with no discernible conflicts with my existing, separate isy 994 with serial plm and multiple insteon devices.

@Michel KohanimGot my SiLabs Zwave dongle working with polisy today. It connected fine to two Zwave devices. Range seems fairly good through a ceramic tiled floor and thick support wood, behind a steel washing machine.

Thanks to @io_guyfor pointing out this cheaper, and more versatile Zwave interface for polisy!
