Bill Morrow Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 My ISY has not been responding to my MobiLinc for about a week. I thought a reboot would solve my issues, but it did not help. I tried launching the Admin Console, but I got the JAR does match the certificate in the JNLP, blah, blah. I read the Wiki and installed the launcher, but it can't find my ISY. I can add my ISY manually, but if I try to do anything with it, Java hangs. I can get into my ISY with my browser, but I get this: error, Loading: /http://192.168.1.95/WEB/FAVICON.ICO. If I try to launch the Admin Console from the browser, I get Java 2+ required. Assuming my ISY is still alive I wanted to update my firmware to use the UD Mobile app.
Bill Morrow Posted December 1, 2021 Author Posted December 1, 2021 OK, I got into the Dashboard from the launcher, and it complained about accessing a bunch of devices. I tried operating one device and I got this:
Geddy Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 @Bill Morrow This looks like it could be a SD card malfunction Wiki error codes show 110012 and 110022 could be SD related. Do you know how long it has been since you made a backup of your ISY? Perhaps the easiest option now would be to open a ticket with UDI support and have them assist with the steps needed to get you up and running again. Although, other troubleshooting you can do to possibly get you on the path to accessing it again would be the usual: Clear java cache (be sure you select all three options in this step even though this video doesn't do that it's sometimes helpful.) Important step -- delete any old start.jnlp or admin.jnlp files you've downloaded in the past. Just so you don't select the wrong file. Download the ISY Launcher Run the current downloaded file and it should add the ISY Launcher to your desktop (assuming Windows Operating System) If at that point the finder doesn't find your ISY you should add the IP manually (you seem to have it above). Use your Admin/Pass for local access. Option 2: If you have ISY Portal you can login there and get your ISY address and add that (you would then use your ISY Portal credentials to log into the admin console) If you're able to get into the admin console either of these ways it would be a good idea to make a backup right away (don't change anything yet). Then make sure that you're able to perform tasks in the admin console without getting the errors you mention above or other potential SD card failure issues. Then the question becomes...do you have a Z-wave controller in your ISY? If so, what version? Make sure you read the update notes about the latest firmware as it might relay to any z-wave controller version you have. If you don't have z-wave in your ISY then you should update to 5.3.4 (latest build) and be on your way. The concern remains though that if your SD card is going back or has gone bad you could run into issues along the upgrade path. So it's important to troubleshoot that some more and that's why I started with suggesting opening at ticket with UDI. Bill Morrow Posted December 1, 2021 Author Posted December 1, 2021 Yeah, I did the Java/Launcher dance last night. I never did get the Launcher to find my ISY. I did manage to add it manually last night, but I can't even do that today. My MobilLinc can't connect to my ISY today either. I couldn't get the Admin Console to load from the Launcher or the Browser last night. I did load something called the Dashboard from the Launcher, but a number of devices were missing. I did do a backup through the Dashboard, but I'm not sure I trust this. I did a backup a while ago, but my configuration has not changed in quite some time. The voice announcements are working intermittently today, so I know it's not completely braindead, just memory impaired, I think. The power up produced a lot of Rx, Tx activity and one short error light at the start of the sequence.

After reading @Geddy's thought above, and your additional post today, my advice to you is to open a ticket by emailing support@universal-devices.com You need 1:1 help from support there's too much going on here to drag this thru the slow responses that a support forum produces. Since this thread is short and doesn't contain any crosstalk be sure to link it in your ticket as it's easy to review. UDI has fast and stellar support, also generally UDI does not charge for support, i.e. getting you back online. If you were asking them to do custom programming for you, yes they would charge for that, but that is not what you are doing, your installation is broken and you need to get it back in shape. 1
Bill Morrow Posted December 1, 2021 Author Posted December 1, 2021 Thanks guys, I opened a ticket this morning and it's been determined that my SD card is failing. Michael sent me the Wiki, so I'll be replacing it ASAP. 1 1

Good luck! Yes Michael said my SD was going bad. I had a spare 32GB SD from my voice announcements experiments. I followed the Wiki and formatted the SD, but I never got the Goodbye from the Console, it just booted me out. It was tough getting back into the Admin Console, but once I reloaded the firmware things seemed better. I only had the backup from last night, as my older backups are 4.8. I didn't know if that mattered, so I loaded the 4.9 backup I had. I lost two devices, but I knew one device had fritzed itself. The other one is right next to it. The voice announcements are yakking away again, so I know my network resources are OK. Just checked my MobilLinc and it's working again. Thanks everyone. Edited December 2, 2021 by Bill Morrow 2
Bill Morrow Posted December 2, 2021 Author Posted December 2, 2021 Things are still not right. I have a number of non responsive devices. I tried to update them, but they just turned red. A few minutes ago I tried to turn on the bedroom light with my MobilLinc, it came on about two minutes after I clicked it. I wonder if I have some powerline noise or if my PLM is dying?

I have found that is usually some program executing a fast loop time, bogging down the ISY logic engine.Usually this can be indicated by rebooting ISY and it acts quickly for a time until the offending programs get a grip on your ISY free time again.Sent from my SM-G781W using Tapatalk

Sent from my SM-G781W using Tapatalk Thanks, I still have no joy here. I loaded an older backup and that made the Admin Console load less sluggish, but I still can't talk to the ISY. I need to hunt for noise tomorrow. I'm hoping I can find my X10 meter, it wasn't where I left it 20 years ago.

I found I required lots of time space after X10 commands as the PLM did not seem to arbitrate X10 and Insteon signal timing very well and they could be transmitted over top of one another.

I think there is only one X10 left, a Socket Rocker. I'm hoping the signal meter will show me any noise, regardless of the source. I've got an active phase coupler and a few extenders, so lots to check My symptoms are bizarre, the hard wired motion detectors and voice announcements seem unaffected. My system events work sometimes, mostly for ON events, but not off events. I can't talk to the ISY through the Admin Console or my MobilLinc AT ALL! ?????
Bill Morrow Posted December 3, 2021 Author Posted December 3, 2021 I got Lucky! ? I found my X10 signal meter in my X10 junk box, ooh, so many goodies in there. LOL. The meter didn't show anything of course. I tried turning on a light with my MobilLinc, but my light status did not change, and the X10 meter was quiet because I wasn't sending an X10 signal. I walked over to the fuse panel and flipped the breaker on my phase coupler and the status on my light changed instantly. Ok, so the phase coupler is toast. I don't even remember what's in the box, it was one of Jeff Volp's active repeaters at one time, but I think it died and I replaced it with a Leviton. I don't think I need it anyway, as I have four Insteon extenders now. I'll monitor it for a few days, but fingers crossed.
larryllix Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 Oh ..I only use an old x10 phase coupler close to my main panel and never owned an Insteon Extender or Phase coupler. Never needed one in a 7 year old Insteon system. I also run two separate phases off my Outback Inverters.Sent from my SM-G781W using Tapatalk

Sent from my SM-G781W using Tapatalk It looks like the Phase Coupler was acting like a signal suck? I'll have to see how reliable things are without it. It likely only needs a few new capacitors. It was a kit as I recall. I think it died about 10 years ago and Jeff sent me the replacement parts. I know it definitely helped the X10 when I installed it.

Keep it close to the PLM where it does not affect the levels Sent from my SM-G781W using Tapatalk Edited December 3, 2021 by larryllix
