A few Polisy questions

I've been an ISY user since the 99i days (994i currently) and am 100% insteon heavily integrated into Home Assistant. I have a 2413s PLM 9e (the latest I believe) and yesterday purchased a 2413u after reading it can be used with the Polisy and possibly swapping the daughterboard with the serial PLM should the need arise (knock on wood).

So...

1 - Is/will Polisy supported by Home Assistant?

2- If I eventually switch to the Polisy Insteon nodeserver, does it appear like an ISY to HA? Will it even work in HA without a Polisy-specific  integration?

3- I'm considering migrating to RadioRA3 down the road and say I'm using an Insteon nodeserver and RA3 nodeserver. Would Polisy expose both as generic light entities and HA wouldn't know or care whether they are RA3 or Insteon?

4- Does anyone have links to pics/videos of a USB/Serial daughterboard swap on a PLM?

And finally, anyone know of a person or company that refurbishes PLMs for a price if supplied with the PLM and caps? Would that be a better solution than a daughterboard swap?

Any advice/insight much appreciated.

thanks

I don't think it's been tested yet.   @shbatm and @bdraco maintain the Universal-devices HA integration.  There should not be alot of work to do to make it HA compatible.  It may work now, but may need to have the ISY on Polisy url manually entered into the integration.

It's been months but, in an unrelated chat, I mentioned to @shbatm that ISY on Polisy was moving forward and he told me he as a Polisy that's still in the box, but that's good news because he won't need to acquire hardware.

Personally, I won't move off 994 until either the HA integration works for sure or @shbatm communicates that he wants me to move my larger installation over because he needs me to test with a large installation.

Probably, but we won't really know until the RA3 nodeserver exists....

I thought about doing that... unfortunately I also decided I didn't want the liability.  Say Person X sends a PLM that they think needs re-capped... I open it up and the entire board was smoked by lightning instead... they blame me.  Person Y sends a PLM and I break the housing opening it up... they blame me, no parts avaialble.  Person Z sends me a PLM and it's not even a 2413s, it's some version of some X10 controller that worked with windows 10, I tell them it's not a 2413s they sent, and they say YES YES IT WAS GIVE ME MY 2413S back.....  sure... business insurance would cover me, but if I had to buy business insurance to repair PLMs for users then PLM repair would likely no longer be affordable.

Why do you doubt the daughterboard swap?

Thanks for the detailed information, much appreciated. I definitely plan on holding off as long as possible. My current PLM is over 4 years old and has started missing the occasional local control event more and more often. Last one did that for several months before completely giving up the ghost. As for swapping the daughterboard, I guess I'm just a bit nervous about potentially breaking a mostly-working PLM.

I guess best scenario at this point is make it far enough until the Home Assistant/Polisy/Insteon integrations mature. Once moved over to the Polisy I should hopefully be able to start transitioning to RA3 (or Thread or whatever else)

Personally, I would get USB PLM and a polisy and start porting over. ISY / polisy is working quite well now. Much to go but workable for most intents.

@Rob's heavily integrated with Home Assistant tho, so we need to find out if there's any HA hickups before he does.

@MrBill, from URL and communications, ISY 5.3 and Polisy 5.2 are identical. In short, a client would not know the difference (i.e. UD Mobile does not know the difference between ISY and Polisy).

With kind regards,
Michel

@Michel Kohanim that's great news!!

This just caused me to remember that one can use multiple instances of the Universal-devices intergration with a single HA installation.  I'll try it later...

Wow good news indeed! I think I'll try the daughterboard swap and maybe pick up another USB PLM and a Polisy before the holidays. Have some vacation coming up and that would be a good time to migrate. I guess it'll be a good opportunity to clear out the flotsam of unused programs and resources built up over the years.

Gonna go start reading up on the migration process and I'm sure I'll be asking more questions if I get stuck.

Thanks again for the great info I always get from the community

@MrBill Let know if you're able to get the Polisy working with Home Assistant--if everything is the same for the REST and Websocket interfaces like @Michel Kohanim mentioned, then I don't think there should be any changes needed for PyISY connecting for Home Assistant. Like I mentioned in our other chat--I've had some major life changes recently so I haven't been able to do much with my Polisy to test anything, but I do have the hardware if there is anything I need to test.
